Day Three of the Odinsleep (The Coming of the Valkyrie)

DAY ONE (Day Three of the Odinsleep), 9:30 am

With the first wave of enemies slain, the priests and Kysek rush over to where Raven has fallen upon the ground.  Kysek uses Blackflame to push Thorgrim away from his old friend’s hand as if it were a snake and mutters, “It’s not quite the digs that Malazzarr used to provide for us but it will be a safe place to tend our wounded.”  The elf closes his eyes and pulls a small glass bead from one of his many pouches.  He whispers the words “Маленькая хижина Леонунда” and an opaque sphere springs into being, centered on him.  Cedron and Grotto both kneel beside Raven, invoking the power of their gods, Malazzarr and Hanseath respectively to heal the elven warrior.  Energy flows through the hands of the priests and into Raven’s broken body.  Bones fuse back into place and blood stops flowing from his many cuts and scrapes.  Korbin and Hansuke both enter the sphere and pass potions of healing elixir to the priests.

Cedron holds up one hand, “Wait until he is conscious enough to swallow.  We don’t want him to choke to death while we are trying to heal him.”

Raven’s eyes flicker open and he thankfully drinks the offered potions.  His wounds continue to mend and he sits up, looking around the inside of the small sphere.  “I am still alive so I guess we won?”  He reaches over and drags Thorgrim over to where he is sitting.  He takes a deep breath and sighs, “I don’t think I can defeat another of those…things without the sword’s power but using it is going to get me killed.”

Cedron places a hand on Raven’s chest and pushes him back down, “That sword and your stubbornness.  If you do that again, I swear I’m going to kill you if the giant doesn’t first.  Now, Little Black Bird of Death, lay still a moment while I take a look at your injuries.”

Shadow flies over to where the Jotun has fallen and collects Spewer.  “I am sure the priests can take care of Raven.  Let’s take a look around and see if there are any more enemies lurking about.  The dark elf floats back into the air, hovering over the battlefield.  The dark elf is joined by Arthur, who has activated the flight power granted to him by his shield.  The holy glowing aura that surrounds the paladin bothers his sensitive eyes somewhat so the drow avoids looking directly at him as he peers out over the field.  He sees that Oddvar’s company…platoon?  Whichever it may be, they have weathered the initial attack as well although it looks as if the strange spellcaster has only perhaps half of his troops left after their battle.

Drax and Niklas head over to the berm and look out over it, scanning the field for any other foes that may yet remain.  The woodsman clears his throat and asks, “Does this happen to Raven often?  Will he be alright?”

Ra’ziir, having already taken a look around, determines that there is no immediate threat so he heads over to the conjured dome to speak with the others.  Desmond walks along beside him, his watchful gaze still scanning the perimeter of the area assigned to the party.

A black speck appears over the horizon.  It grows rapidly as it approaches and soon reveals itself to be a winged horse bearing a female rider flying over the battlefield.  The horse turns and begins to descend, alighting gently before tucking its wings in against the sides of its body.  The woman, solidly built and standing over 6-½’ tall dismounts, looks at those gathered and asks, “I have come for the dying warrior.  Take me to him.”

When nobody moves, she looks around and walks over to the dome and looks inside.  When she sees Raven she says, “I must usually travel all the way to Midgard to collect a worthy soul to gather into the ranks of Einherjar although it would seem my arrival is premature.”

The woman’s gaze sweeps over the party before she speaks again, “All of you hold a special place of honor.  Should any of you die defending the Realm Eternal, you are guaranteed a place among the ranks of those who will fight alongside Odin with the coming of Ragnarok.”
