EPISODE ONE: EAST OF OMAHA (FINALE) For a moment, everyone froze. Dragula laughed, "Told you it would work." Mac called out to Sam, "Hey, GET UP." Mac leaned over to open the door for the little demon. Sam squinted at the cloud. "We didn't destroy it." Drags reached down and grabbed a flare pistol and aimedaims for the golden cloud of Angel Dust and fired! The burning projectile disappeared into the glowing mist. The flare continued through and out the other side. Dragula watched the flare as it fell. "Well, I expected more out of that." Mac looked at Sam, "Hey, you're a demon. Can't you conjure up fire?" Sam turned and looked at Mac. "Wow. Just, wow. That is an incredibly hurtful and outdated stereotype." Xaden shouted to Dragula, "Try shooting the trailer! If there is enough there the ensuing fireball should reach." Sam's jaw dropped, "Why would that work?" Xaden scratched his be...

EPISODE ONE: EAST OF OMAHA (THE CHOIR) Mac exclaimed, "Brothers...... the time is here to roll! Now!" The big zipper took a step, a second, a third as he pulled the machete from his pocket, grabbed it with two hands and hurled it towards Roger. Roger's eyes went wide. Dragula shouted, “Noooooo!” Jolene did not move. Her emerald eyes followed the spinning blade. The Choir stopped humming. Every smiling face turned to watch the machete's flight. The machete struck Roger square in the chest. The impact lifted him off his feet and he crashed down, knocking over oil drums and shattering one pallet. The machete's handle quivered violently with every ragged breath. He gasped. Once. Twice. Blood spread across the filthy white lab coat. Yet, he was still smiling. His eyes drifted upwards as he turned his head, staring into the sky. His lips moved. "So..." Another painful breath, "...beautiful..." One trembling hand reached upward, grasping at so...

EPISODE ONE: EAST OF OMAHA (JOLENE) “You know that Angel?” Drags says to Sam over the CB. "I recognize her now. She was at the Waffle House this morning." “So we were picked for this run? And why?  What did we do that her Smilers were not able to. That is the question.” "I don't know. Think for ourselves?" came Sam's reply. Mac clicks in, "Hey, Brother, you still want to see if she'd marry a zipper? XOXO or hahahaha?" Xadens grip tightens the steering wheel groaning under his grip as his eye narrowed at the man. "HumanCorp...." flashbacks of that night pour into his mind, "and an angel...F@#! Now Heaven is with them...makes a man want to lose faith." Then Jolene spoke. She didn't raise her voice. Every radio, every truck speaker, even the handheld CBs carried her words. "Children... be not afraid." She folded her hands before her. "You've spent your lives learning to fear anything you don't ...

EPISODE ONE: EAST OF OMAHA (NEW CEDAR RAPIDS) Dragula reached up and wrapped his fingers around an ornate silver chain hanging from the roof of the cab and gave it a sharp pull. The monster's chrome maw that served as the truck's grille split open just enough for the horn mounted inside to come alive. A shrieking, metallic howl tore across the prairie. Mac had built it from a stack of battered metal discs salvaged from some forgotten pre-war technology. Nobody knew exactly what the discs had once done. Nobody cared. They made wonderfully terrible noises. Over the years, Dragula had experimented with dozens of combinations, recording different tones and arranging them into a language only he and Mac understood. Three short blasts, one long wail, a descending screech. Mac grinned behind his hockey mask and shifted the Fluffy Bunny into gear. Miles slipped beneath their wheels. The rain gradually gave way to low gray clouds. The broken remains of what had once been part of Io...

EPISODE ONE: EAST OF OMAHA (WHAT'S IN THE BOX) The Last Cathedral's organ finally fell silent. Only the steady rumble of diesel engines and the hiss of tires on wet pavement remained. Behind the convoy, the singing of the Billboard People faded into the distance until it was swallowed by the rain. Mac keyed his microphone. "Fluffy Bunny to crew. Any repairs, I got parts back at the shop. Demon, you good? Leaking anything? I'll do a check on everybody when we stop." Sam glanced at his gauges. "Screaming Demon to Fluffy Bunny. Couple new scratches. Nothing major." Dragula answered next. "Drags to Bunny. Good call. Let's do a quick once-over." The convoy resumed its original lineup with the Screamin' Demon taking point, followed by the Last Cathedral, Electric, and Fluffy Bunny slotting in behind him. The convoy spread out slightly as Sam scanned the roadside for an abandoned rest area or truck pull-off. Inside the Last Cathedral, Xa...

Monster Truckers - Corporations of the Pre-War Days

So... when we went to create the Dragula/Electric Warlock character, he was originally going to be called Dr. Zekenstein's Monster. That ended up changing but it made me wonder who Dr. Zekenstein might have been. Dr. Z was a geneticist and surgeon who became an early pioneer of the technology that led to the creation of Zippers. And he would have made a lot of money along the way. While no one can confirm Dr. Zekenstein's fate following the war, he had inspired a lot of competition. Canonically, BeautyMax already existed, offering to preserve youth and vitality through Project Mummy ™ but I felt like there needed to be more corporate players on the field as it were. Most of them would have been subsumed by HumanCorp by now or destroyed during the Human-Monster War but, as an option, I would like to present the following for consideration. 1.  Zekenstein Biotechnics      • THE pioneer is the recombination and reanimation of the dead. They developed the technol...

EPISODE ONE: EAST OF OMAHA (THE BILLBOARD PEOPLE) A few minutes later, the convoy arrived at a rundown warehouse near the old rail yard. The building was covered with rusty corrugated steel panels. Boarded up, windows dotted the outside. Several panels hung slightly crooked, rattling in the wind. Knee-high weeds pushed through cracked pavement. Abandoned train cars sat on nearby sidings like monuments to a world that no longer existed. Decades of urban decay had settled over everything. The entire area smelled of diesel fuel and metal. A chain-link fence topped with razor wire surrounded the property. Two guards stood watch at the gate. One was a pale vampire in a faded security jacket carrying a pump-action shotgun slung over his shoulder. The other was a shaggy wolf-man whose badge identified him as "Ralph". While the vampire checked IDs, Ralph made his way around to each of the vehicles, sniffing for anything out-of-the-ordinary. Once satisfied, Ralph signaled the vam...
