Keep on the Barrie Grange

Image
I keep mentioning that Kysek is the Knight of the Barrie Grange but it occurs to me that I have never really mentioned where exactly that is. The fort was designed using the 3.5e Stronghold Builder's. Kysek's keep is located in the Goralian Hills, just short of the Cimmerian border. The previous master, Sir Gasparas, performed as little maintenance as possible. After his treachery against the crown was uncovered, King Conan the Usurper granted the fallen knight's title and lands to Kysek Creepingshadow. The “castle” is little more than a frontier fort surrounded by rocky land unsuitable for significant farming, although the commoners in the area raise livestock (pigs, goats, sheep and chickens) here. Despite the lack of care put into its upkeep, the fort is well designed and defensible. Parts of the wooden palisade had rotted away and weeds had overtaken the bailey. Roofs of several buildings were in need of attention but the stables were in excellent condition. The obvi...

Throwback Post - Ra'ziir Gets a Heart

Image
This scene takes place in the Elephant Tower in the City of Shadizar on the world of Hyboria.  To say that it strays from the canon tale written by Howard would be an understatement but I had recently learned about the Half-Elemental template and wanted to introduce it to the group so I made some changes. Ra’ziir enters the room. He rests the tip of his fiery sword upon the polished ivory floor and watches the suffering of the beast. Despite his training, the elf is unable to recall any outsider that precisely matches the appearance of this pitiful wreck of a creature. Its body resembles that of a Marut, an Inevitable from the Plane of Mechanus – a powerful being who seeks to collect the souls of those who try to cheat death but its head looks like it belongs on a Loxo, a race of pachyderm-headed minotaurs who live in the southern reaches of Faerûn. Malazzarr gazes...

The Road So Far...

(*cue Kansas' Wayward Son) The Beginning After years of adventuring both together and separately, the party rendezvoused in the town of Tsuragol, on the northern coast of the Sea of Fallen Stars with the intention of traveling east to Kara-Tur.   Unknown to the adventurers, several of their party members had angered the goddess Shar after killing one of her high priestesses a few days earlier.   Shar however, was unable to act against them because gods were prohibited from directly interfering with the lives of mortals. The group set out and found themselves caught in a terrible thunderstorm.   They took shelter in an abandoned temple of Talos.   The temple had been designed by the long-dead priests to collect and channel power from storms to augment spells.   Long disuse of the temple had left it unable to store the gathered energy and Shar used her magic to fuel the storm, making it more powerful and longer lasting than it would have normally been...
