Throwback Post - A Cure for Jack

Image
"Jack and Jill went up the hill To fetch a pail of water; Jack fell down and broke his crown, and Jill came tumbling after. Up Jack got, and home did trot, As fast as he could caper, To old Dame Dob, who patched his nob With vinegar and brown paper." While the party was in the Grimmlands , they discovered that Jack, Ruler of the Checkerboard Kingdoms, had vanished. His queen, Jill, had been searching for him and enlisted the party's aid. My original plan was to have the party find Jack and then take him to Dame Dob to heal his injury and have his memory restored. The group came up with the idea to restore his memory with a True Love's Kiss. I hadn't even thought of that being an option but it was so much better and fit the setting better thematically so I ran with it. In the final battle with Humpty Dumpty the Rotten King, Cinderella, Maleficent, the Fallen Muse, and Grotto's brother, Delve , the group managed to reunite Jack and Jill in time for he...

Klimpaloon, the Magical Old-Timey Bathing Suit Who Lives in the Himalayas

Image
Ever since writing the post about the Tri-State Area being its own dimension the other day, this unusual character has been on my mind. I thought about using the Incarnate Construct template for him but losing All of his abilities didn't appeal to me. Instead, I simply went with a permanent Animated Object spell followed by Awaken Construct. The Tri-State Area!!!!!

Image
I recently found myself faced with a dilemma of my own making. I had decided long ago that Earth-218 would not be home to any characters with the ability to reshape reality (Franklin Richards, Scarlet Witch, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Q, Cosmo and Wanda, or, dare I say it, Phineas and Ferb). There's just one small semi-aquatic egg-laying mammal of action-based problem.  Perry the Platypus is a already a character who exists there.  Therefore, it stands to reason that Phineas and Ferb Fletcher and Dr. Doofenschmirtz and their physics-defying, reality-bending inventions also exist. We're talking about devices that transform tree houses into Battle Mechs, a giant ant farm that leads to giant, super-evolved ants to bizarre "Inators" that turn objects into bread and another that eliminates all musical instruments starting with the letter "B" (banjos, bagpipes, etc) within its area of effect from existence. So, how do I reconcile the obvious disparity between these charact...

Remy the Rat is the chief protagonist of the movie "Ratatouille". He is a rat living in Paris who dreams of becoming a chef. Kaa

Image
My wife had Army Reserve Drill this past weekend.   In addition to exploring the area surrounding the base , I went to Wal-Mart, purchased and read Rudyard Kipling’s “The Jungle Book”.   I have seen the Disney cartoon probably a dozen or so times and while I expected some differences from film to novel, I was surprised by a few things, most notably the inclusion of several non-jungle stories (a white seal that leads his people to the safe nursery grounds and the struggle for an Inuit village to survive a particularly brutal winter).   I also learned that Rikki-Tiki-Tavi is part of the book (I had seen a cartoon when I was little but did not realize this was its source material).   The biggest change in my opinion is how much of a bad@$$ Kaa is.   Unlike his comic-relief cartoon counterpart, Kaa is a force to be reckoned with.   In his first appearance, Kaa is recruited by Baloo and Bagheera to help rescue Mowgli from a band of monkeys in a ruined...

Dr. Doofenshmirtz and the Learn-to-Drive-inator

Image
Until “they” took it off of NetFlix, I watched A LOT of Phineas and Ferb.   I even made a d20 Modern version of Perry the Platypus for the Earth-218 chapter of my campaign .   The other day I got caught behind someone in traffic and found myself growing more and more frustrated, anxiously awaiting the chance to pass them so I could get to where I was going.   That got me to thinking and eventually, my thoughts led me to the following story...   “Dr. Doofenshmirtz and the Learn-to-Drive-inator” set-up: Major Monogram dispatches Agent P (Perry the Platypus) to investigate Dr. Doofenshmirtz's latest scheme which involves collecting all of the Driver's Educations Manuals from all of the DMVs in the Tri-State Area. cut to shot of the exterior of Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated... cut to inside of laboratory: Agent P kicks open the door and enters. Doof: “Ah!   Perry the Platypus!   How nice of you to stop in!   Please, hav...

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
