The Dover Demon - A Modern Adventure Seed

Image
It began on April 21st, 1977. Over the course of the next two nights, several teens would report sightings of an unidentified creature which eventually came to be known as the Dover Demon.... For those of you who have been following this blog, you know that I plan on having my campaign cross over with a modern setting . This adventure is set in that world but the scenario involved can be easily adapted to virtually any setting.  • A Fraal ship is damaged in battle with a N'sss vessel and is forced to land. The pilot leaves to draw away any N'sss pursuers while his crew begins to work on repairs. The alien 👽 is seen by William "Bill" Bartlett, John Baxter, and eventually Abby Brabham (NPCs).  Player Characters become involved as either representatives of the local authorities (perhaps from the Men in Black) charged with hunting the extraterrestrials (alternatively, helping the Fraal), amateur UFOlogists, or, for a change of pace play as a membe...

Alien Abduction Side Quest

Image
At one point, I had a player who had to leave the campaign for awhile.  The party was exploring the Island of Iron Statues on Hyboria and I had the character leave and head back to the cove where the ship was anchored.  Along the way, he was abducted by aliens (just to make things interesting).  However, when it was time for him to rejoin the party, I had a lot of explaining to do... this is a summary of the events that occurred while he was away....  I haven't changed any of the text except to correct some spelling errors that I have noticed in the three-ish (?) years since this solo adventure took place.  The player eventually left the campaign again and his character was left behind in the city of Lankhmar but you never know, he may be able to rejoin the game some day. - Prologue - Felix looks around and seeing the situation at the tower is well in hand, decides to run for the ship to help the defenders there. He takes off running into the woods, ke...

The Fraal of Earth-218

Magic is a pervasive source of energy that permeates the universe.   It could be compared to the Force in that it is created by all living things.   It surrounds us, it penetrates us, it binds the galaxy together.   With training, anyone can learn to manipulate this form of energy to achieve a variety of effects.   An unexpected side effect of harnessing this energy is the havoc it wreaks on advanced technology.   Electrical lights flicker, vehicles break down unexpectedly, and communication equipment fails.   Centuries ago, exposure to magic would cause flames to burn in unusual colors, milk to sour, and horses to sweat in the morning.   Over time, the way magic has been utilized has evolved to avoid these deleterious consequences. Some worlds have more ambient magic than others, making the fantastic more possible than it is in other worlds.   Some worlds have far less; making the casting of spells difficult at best and in some cases, dangerou...
