Campaign Chronicles

Back in 2nd ed, when Clerics got followers for making 10th level, I had no idea what to do with mine when they arrived.  Being a Cleric of Shaundukal, after much thought, I decided that the ones I received would form the "core" of a merchant caravan that traveled the Dalelands in search of profits and adventure.  This is the home the party built for them. I do not like dungeon crawls.  I don't.  Go five feet - check for traps - go five more feet - it drives me absolutely bonkers.  That said, every once in awhile, as a Dungeon Master, you find yourself needing to do one for sake of the campaign's story.  I forget what was happening that prompted the creation of Thordbalmek but I do remember that I used the 2nd ed Complete Book of Dwarves extensively to get the job done. Raven Keep was the name of the fortress my players' adventuring party established in the Border Forest on the edge of Dalelands, just north of Daggerdale.  It served as their home and base of operations for the first several years of their adventuring careers.  They eventually tore down the original keep and built a new, larger keep on the site of the original one.  The keep was eventually abandoned although the party's priests and wizards warded it heavily before departing as individual members of the group had departed over the years in pursuit of their own interests. The party has finished building its expanded fortress on the site of the original Raven Keep. The main intent of the new keep’s construction was to achieve a more effective use of space while retaining the “feel” of the original structure.
