Campaign Chronicles

Stamford, CT - the New Warriors, while filming an episode for their reality-TV show, attempt to apprehend a group of supervillains. A battle erupts and one of those villains, Nitro, uses his self-detonation power and blows himself up. The blast ignites a gas main and several city blocks are destroyed. 612 civilians, including 60 children in an elementary school are killed. This event leads to the creation of the Superhuman Registration Act and the subsequent creation of the 50-State Initiative - a program where each state would be assigned a team of state-sponsored superheroes. While the SRA was eventually repealed, the Initiative teams are gradually being activated. Note #1: In Marvel Comics (Earth-616) canon, the Spaceknights are the Initiative team for Illinois. They have no "on-screen" appearances. The things that pop into my head: I sent one of my players a text message of the Captain America Patience PSA from the end credits for Spider-Man Homecoming and it got me to thinking.   First of the Guns ‘N Roses song and then of an older superhero sitting down and giving some advice and within a minute or three it turned into this snippet of story that takes place on Earth-218 … R udy/Char was my main superhero character for the old Marvel Superheroes campaign I was part of back in high school.   Rudy’s uncle (Juan) trained him in wrestling and helped provide alibis for his secret identity.   Pablo is Juan’s son and has tested positive for the X-Gene and wants to become a superhero too. Chlorokill is an antagonist (and one of Earth-218 ’s first supervillains) that my players will encounter in the 1920s  portion of our current campaign (his level will be adjusted to a point where he is an appropriate challenge for the group).   Based in part on Swamp Thing and Bushroot from Darkwing Duck, Dr. Anatoly Yasen, is a Russian immigrant to the United States, and had been a victim of famine in his homeland.   He had been experimenting with a means of creating human photosynthesis but he was bullied by several of his colleges who exposed him to his formula, hoping to embarrass him in front of the research center administrator’s beautiful daughter.   The formula worked but he was transformed into a half-man/half-plant hybrid.   The transformation drove him mad and he killed his co-workers and then turned his attention on attacking meat packing plants in Chicago.   The party will run into him when they investigate these attacks. This story is set on Earth-218 and features a d20 version of one of the MSH characters from the campaign I ran back in high school.   It is one of the examples on how I plan on incorporating D&D into a modern/near future setting.
