Christmas will be upon us soon so I thought it would be nice to write another holiday themed post. With that in mind, I present to you the Gift of the Mogwai.... The Grinch is a 53-year old Half-Ogre Bugbear that lives in the mountains just North of the town of Whoville. He is, or at until recently was, incredibly hostile toward the Who's and their Midwinter holiday festivities, going so far as to steal gifts, food, and decorations in an attempt to disrupt the celebration. When freshly carved (until the next sunrise) and for as long as the candle within burns, a Jack-O-Lantern radiates an effect identical to a Magic Circle Against Evil spell (with the area of effect extending to protect the entire dwelling). Incorporeal undead must make a Will save (DC10 + Wis modifier of the lantern carver) or be shaken if within line of sight.  For AD&D, make these into a Protection from Evil 10' radius , a saving throw vs Spell and Morale checks respectively. Additionally, the color of a Jack-O-Lantern's light changes to blood-red if a vampire comes within 30'*. * I found several mentions of Jack-O-Lantern lights revealing vampires but no method was revealed in any of the articles I read. ...

Zombie Mosh... a thrift store find that set me back all of $7.99 plus tax. I will admit that I bought it mostly because of the Eddie -esque art featured on the packaging. For those of you who may be interested in the actual game, I am including a video from GamersOnGames for you. I enjoyed it and think they did a great job. Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that I plan on incorporating ALL of the games from my collection into my current campaign .  I have considered using Zombie Mosh in a few different ways. A not-too-long-time-ago, I came across this picture in my Facebook feed and it has haunted me ever since. The Acoustic Kitty was a CIA project that involved surgically implanting a microphone and transmitter into a cat. The cat would have then been used to spy on persons of interest (at the time, the Soviets). The project was (allegedly) shut down after cats were deemed too difficult to train. Like most things, this will most likely make its way into my campaign . In a fantasy setting, the use of magic makes eavesdropping much simpler in general, especially when familiars are involved. In a modern setting, the cat could become a MacGuffin, something lost that must be found, rescued, or eliminated by the player characters. It could also become an animal companion to the party, gathering intelligence on their behalf or slipped into their midst by a rival group who seeks to use it against them.
