Fight Club Fight! LET’S GET IT ON!

There are many underground pit fighting arenas in Sigil.   The (SPOILERS!!!) “ Eternal Boundary ” adventure module says that the most infamous of these is the Blood Pit.   The Blood Pit is scattered throughout a series of warehouses and is run by a filthy little gnome named Felgar. The 3.5 update I got called “ Sigil: The City of Doors ” lists the Bottle & Jug Tavern as the place to go if you are in the mood for bloodsport.   This establishment is operated by Barl Hoxun. At first, I thought that I must have missed something, that perhaps a change of management had occurred or that maybe one club has pushed the other out.   But, then, as I put more thought into it, I said to myself, why can’t the two be in competition?   I envisioned a clash of pit fighting rings with one organization absorbing all other competitors in its path – much like the WWE did to the NWA, ECW, and WCW.   Which gave me another idea… The Bottle and Jug tavern’s fightin...

Bulmoor vs the Slushie Cart

Image
The Battlerager is a snarling foaming-at-the-mouth paragon of dwarven deadliness.   Battleragers typically wade into the most ferocious of fights with axe, pick or hammer to lay waste to orcs, goblins, ogres and giants and even foes as deadly as dragons without a second (and in some cases, first) thought.   These lethal, bearded killing machines are renowned, or perhaps reviled, for their notoriously bad attitudes.   They spit, pick their noses, belch, fart, interrupt, talk in the theater and are generally contemptuous of anyone who isn’t one of their own. And then there was Bulmoor…. Bulmoor was a battlerager played in a campaign that one of my buddies ran back on the ship.   His player, while more than capable of getting loud and rowdy once you got him off of the ship and a few drinks in him, was pretty quiet at the table.   He played Bulmoor against type, keeping him quiet and low-key.   I often said that Bulmoor was the most polite Battle...

Duncan Brontoskin - A True Warrior

Image
Sometimes, characters will take on a life of their own. Sometimes, that life spills over into the real world and can get people into trouble. Take for instance, the tale of Duncan Brontoskin, a character I played in one of my earliest campaigns. Duncan was a barbarian from the village of Triboar and like many members of his clan, he was disdainful of magic. The only exception were spells cast be priests of the war god Tempus. Sadly, He was also illiterate. His ability to count consisted of “1...2...more than 2...many”. On one occasion, the adventuring party he was a member of was offered 10,000 gold pieces to rescue a princess (or other important personage) and Duncan scoffed, “Feh! Make it FIVE!” Like many barbarians, he prided himself on being a “True Warrior” and loved to test himself in battle by wrestling his enemies into submission. He’d wrestled wolves, bears and zombies and even tried to wrestle with Wooly Mammoths and a Frost Giant, loudly proclaiming “Feh! I...
