Ginfardwgak - The Deep Shale Hold
Ginfardwgak was created using rules found in the AD&D 2nd edition supplement "The Complete Book of Dwarves" and the 3.5e DMG.
Ginfardwgak (Hamlet/Dwarven Stronghold):
Population: 201 (154 Hill Dwarves, 33 Gully Dwarves, 10 Mountain Dwarves, 3 Humans, 1 Kagonesti Elf
Government: Monarchy
Religions: Reorx
Imports: Food, Livestock (specifically mules), Lumber
Exports: Tin, Copper
GP limit: 100 stl; Ready Cash: 1,000 stl
Authority Figure: Baron Fargain Shalecutter (LG Hill Dwarf Expert 10)
Important Characters: Shard Thornwallen, Militia Commander (LG Mountain Dwarf Fighter 6); Pog Grubcatcher, "leader" of the Gully Dwarves (N Gully Dwarf Commoner 2); Durnic Feldspar, Roadwarden of the Southern Delves (LN Hill Dwarf Ranger 4), Brunna Ironthane (LN Hill Dwarf Expert 1)
Beneath the Delving, the dwarves of the Shalecutter clan, have established a fortress to protect a line where they have harvested tin and copper from the earth since -2801 PC. This stronghold, known as Ginfardwgak, or the Deep Shale Hold, is led by (Acting) Baron Fargain Shalecutter. Fargain is an engineer by trade. The mines have almost completely played out. Fargain has invested in rationing resources, maintaining clan unity, and avoiding open war with Neraka. Nearly 90% of the populace serves in the militia, under the command of Shard Thornwallen.
The tunnels leading into the city are massive, slate gates, banded with copper. These can be dropped at a moment's notice. The town's upper levels are devoted to trade and governmental services. The Grand Hall and the main barracks are located here.
The mid-layers are primarily residential but the city's cisterns and community garden plots where mushrooms and edible mosses are grown can be found between most housing blocks. The Gully Dwarves live here, in an area known as the Cracks.
The deepest levels of Ginfardwgak are home to the ore-processing plants. Mine carts slowly rust. The furnaces burn low to conserve firewood imported from the surface and are only operated when enough ore has been collected to justify running the smelter, an event that happens once per month.

Umber Hulks lurk in the depths far below the stronghold and were driven upwards by a delver that had been lurking in the area.
