Day Five of the Odinsleep (Χρόνος Explained)

Day Five of the Odinsleep (Just after 1:30 am, 5 hours 30 minutes until sunrise)

“Elemental Time?” Ra’ziir tries to recall anything from his time at the Academy in Evereska regarding Chronomancy but the existence of such a plane is still largely theoretical, even amongst elves. “I have some familiarity with the elements of Earth but my knowledge of the Elements of Time appears to be insufficient. Would you enlighten me?” the bladesinger asks in earnest.

Saga takes a long pull from her mug and wipes her mouth on her sleeve, “Time is a mortal imagining. In and of itself, it does not exist except as a way to define movement - how far an object moves from one position to another and how quickly are the basis for this definition. But defining time without using terms like “how long” or “years ago” is next to impossible. Instead, we have theories and suppositions to support what our senses tell us. If time as you, as we, think of it is real and comes from an actual source, I believe that source would be the boundaries of the Planes of Mechanus and the Positive Material Plane but even then, it is difficult to access, even for gods.”

Her father scratches his beard, “I have a passing familiarity with the place, if that is what we can call it. It is the source of the power that lends itself to spells like ‘Haste’ and ‘Slow’ and ‘Temporal Stasis’ and yes, creatures that do not exist DO live there. Χρόνος is simply one of the most powerful of them. If you would repair your bracer, you will have to summon bind it once more but you will need to use the utmost care. Facing such a being is fraught with peril. The creature is a master of time, existing in all of it at once. A mere touch from the it can bring your future self into the present, aging you in an instant or a past self forward, making you younger in the blink of an eye. It can do the same for itself so it wouldn’t be a single manifestation you face but possibly hundreds, thousands of itself drawn from across all of infinity.”

In the common room at Völundr’s home, Cedron closes his eyes and prays to Malazzarr, informing the god of how his day was spent, his plans for the next morning, and Idunn’s granting of permission to plant the portal seed. He then asks the god to replenish his spells for the coming day and wonders just what will be revealed when the dawn finally comes.

Grotto puts the finishing touches on his armor, stacks it neatly and heads outside. He stretches to warm his muscles and takes a few practice swings with his axe. As he goes through his kata, he prays to Hanseath, renewing his magical arsenal for the coming battles with Jotuns, Ogres, Trolls, and he-knows-what-else Loki will send against the city.

Meanwhile, Korbin flies over the city, looking for shops that may still be open to cater to Einherjar or the common citizens of this godly realm in search of mystic trinkets that may give him an edge once the fighting resumes. After covering most of the city, he does see one building with its lights still on and swoops in for a closer look. Several dwarves can be seen bustling about inside the store through one of the shop’s windows, arranging goods on shelves, folding blankets, polishing weapons and gems and passing a bottle back and forth, taking turns drinking and joking as they work.
