07 Newkolt 349 AC Note: The Temple of Kiri-Jolith is based on "The Ghost Blade" from the 3rd edition Dragonlance Campaign Setting Sourcebook, modified for level and to fit the plot of our current campaign. AT THE ABANDONED TEMPLE OF KIRI-JOLITH Grotto is surprised to see such a well preserved body. "Looks a lot like the elf in the murals" Grotto thinks. "Surely he could not have been in this temple for this long and be so well preserved!" Grotto thinks the elf is in some sort of suspended animation. He examined the elf with his knowledge of healing to see if he can find any signs of life. After confirming that the elf is indeed dead, Grotto says a prayer to Hanseath to the fallen warrior. He then searches the body for anything of value. EN ROUTE TO THE DRAGON ISLES "How are you holding up Lady Agnes? Do you require a break?" He speaks in a caring yet worried voice. "I will be good for several more hours, My Knight. I hope to be in P...

AT THE ABANDONED TEMPLE OF KIRI-JOLITH Grotto searches for clues in the kindling. "A map, a key, something to let me know the way to go." Grotto then looks around the room to see if he can find a way to move forward. He begins tapping the walls, listening for the faint echo that would tell him the passage continues. The dwarf's fingers trace along the tiles of the mosaic and the elven warrior at its center. Then, he finds it. A "crack" inside of a larger tile that is too perfectly geometric to be damage due to age. Several similar buttons radiate outward from the first. He shrugs, spreads his fingers and pushes them all in at once. With an audible "CLICK" the entire wall swings back about two inches like a giant door. Grotto readies hi...

07 Newkolt 349 AC Note: The Temple of Kiri-Jolith is based on "The Ghost Blade" from the 3rd edition Dragonlance Campaign Setting Sourcebook, modified for level and to fit the plot of our current campaign.  AT THE ABANDONED TEMPLE OF KIRI-JOLITH Seeing the statues animate, Grotto backs toward a wall to keep from being surrounded. He raises his throwing axe, gripping it in both of his gnarled, calloused hands and gives it a mighty heave at the nearest statue. The weapon tumbles end over end and slams into the wooden warrior. The powerful blow shatters the dry wood and sends a shower of splinters across the floor. Grotto holds out one hand to catch the weapon as it returns to him. The remaining carved guardians continue to stalk toward the scarred dwarf. He can hear the creaking and cracking of the wood as they close in on him. Grotto swings his axe at the nearest. The blow crushes the left side of the warrior's body. That fighter and its two wooden brothers all swipe ...

Grotto and the Temple, Arthur and Agnes, Cedron's Healing, and the Battle of Kurinost

07 Newkolt 349 AC Note: The Temple of Kiri-Jolith is based on "The Ghost Blade" from the 3rd edition Dragonlance Campaign Setting Sourcebook, modified for level and to fit the plot of our current campaign. AT THE ABANDONED TEMPLE OF KIRI-JOLITH A wide smile crosses Grotto's face seeing the heroic elf. "This must be their war god of this temple. It warms my heart seeing him kill the filthy goblins!" Grotto thinks. Grotto inspects the statues carefully, looking for a spot the new found horn may fit to open up a secret path. He moves from statue to statue, searching for a niche where the horn would fit. The tiles, those which still remain intact at least, begin to glow. Light runs along the design and creeps into the statues which shift and step down from the pedestals before raising their weapons. EN ROUTE TO THE DRAGON ISLES Arthur's eyes drift toward the horizon as if he could see the distant streets of Lankhmar through the clouds. “I grew up in that ...

The Dragon Flees, Kiri-Jolith's Temple, the Warehouse, and Arthur and Agnes' Roadtrip

07 Newkolt 349 AC Note: The Temple of Kiri-Jolith is based on "The Ghost Blade" from the 3rd edition Dragonlance Campaign Setting Sourcebook, modified for level and to fit the plot of our current campaign. AT THE ABANDONED TEMPLE OF KIRI-JOLITH "Wait! Don't go! Are you a god!" After waiting for a response, Grotto attempts to speak to the disembodied voice again but feels communication may be in vain. Grotto then takes the horn with him and returns to the main chamber with the floor trap. He pulls his throwing axe and opens the door ahead. A steep stairway emerges into a long, wide chamber. Unlike the previous chamber, the ceiling, walls, and floor have been covered with small, brightly colored tiles—although the color has faded somewhat and some tiles are cracked or missing. Along the walls the tiles pick out images of an elven warrior wielding a gray sword and wrapped in what seems to be a flickering aura of pale gray light. The warrior is seen battling a...

The Staff of the Oaken Serpent

Image
The Staff of the Oaken Serpent is a short, almost club-like staff covered in a mottled green and yellow leaf pattern. The stout end of the staff vaguely resembles a serpent’s head. Constant Powers: Quarterstaff +3/+3 Invoked Powers: By touching the staff and speaking the appropriate command words, the wielder is able to cast the following divine spells from the staff at the cost of one charge (CL8 or wielder’s Druid level, whichever is higher) - Call Lightning, Entangle, Obscuring Mist, Summon Nature’s Ally V Additionally, if thrown to the ground, the staff transforms into a giant constrictor snake that obeys all commands of the owner (in animal form, it retains the +3 enhancement bonus possessed by the staff form). The serpent returns to staff form whenever the wielder desires or whenever it moves farther than 100’ from its owner. If the snake form is slain, it reverts to staff form and cannot transform or be used to cast spells for three days. Staff of the Oaken Serpent (animal fo...

Kiri-Jolith's Temple Continued (Again), Leaving the Elven Camp, Tending the Wounded, and Battling the Dragon

07 Newkolt 349 AC Note: The Temple of Kiri-Jolith is based on "The Ghost Blade" from the 3rd edition Dragonlance Campaign Setting Sourcebook, modified for level and to fit the plot of our current campaign. AT THE ABANDONED TEMPLE OF KIRI-JOLITH Grotto walks down the corridor to the shrine. He inspects the stone alter for anything unusual. He orders his shield to float over his head. Grotto then takes the horn to investigate what it could be. As the priest of Hanseath touches the horn and lifts it from its stand, a feeling of warmth spreads throughout his body. His aches and pains fade away, leaving him feeling refreshed. The gold shines with a soft glow, illuminating the chamber. A sense of peace washes over him and he hears a voice, clear and filled with purpose. "Do you swear to fight evil? Will you combat injustice? Will you mend the rift between the peoples of this world and show them the true path of brotherhood?" Grotto's eyes open wide, he nearly drop...

07 Newkolt 349 AC Note: The Temple of Kiri-Jolith is based on "The Ghost Blade" from the 3rd edition Dragonlance Campaign Setting Sourcebook, modified for level and to fit the plot of our current campaign. AT THE ABANDONED TEMPLE OF KIRI-JOLITH Grotto realizes his peril. Before continuing further he back tracks to the entrance to find Lorraine. He tells his fellow healer to find his friends to let then know where he is. "I will mark the path I take in the temple so they can meet me. " Grotto then returns to the temple. He pulls his chalk from his gear to mark the walls with the direction he travels. Grotto goes to investigate the false wall he found to make sure it is also not trapped. After investigating, he knocks the wall down to see what secrets it hides. The dirt collapses with a simple stroke of the axe, revealing a 30'-long steep and narrow stairway opens into a small room that clearly seems to be a shrine of some form. A small altar sits against th...
