Tarithnesti - Defensive Preparations

02 Deepkolt 349 AC

Shadow fills Raven in on his plan to infiltrate the goblin camp, charm some to fight the others and drive them into the ambush. “So get some rest, I was about to go but we can roll out in the morning with the “You-guys-will-not-believe-what-we-saw-last-night tales” at the goblin camp

Grotto looks for Ornforithalas. He finds the guard captain speaking with Commander Parnitha. The guard captain is sharpening his spear and looks up from their conversation. The dwarf explains to both his experience in the abandoned temple and his dream from the night before.

The commander, who has just been informed of the slaughter at the homestead replies, "Whatever these goblins get, they have coming to them. You can call it revenge if you want, but it sounds like justice to me."

Ornforithalas adds, "Kiri-Jolith is the god of justice. If you found a horn and saw another in your dream, it could be a vision. You said that the voice in the temple asked if you would fight evil and injustice?"

The dwarf nods.

Ornforithalas goes back to honing his weapon, "Sounds like an answer to me."

Grotto smiles! "Yes, I do enjoy doling out justices and vengeance to evil doers. Sounds like Kiri-Jolith and I will get along just fine. It will be good to have another god in our corner. Hanseath will bless us in war! Kiri-Jolith will bless us reaping vengeance and fighting injustice! Perfect combo!"

Grotto walks away to see if a god native to this land revived his magic, again trying his 'Create Water' spell.

The scarred dwarf closes his eyes in prayer, asking for the simple blessing to flow from this new, deific source. The power flows, hot and passionate, channeled through Grotto in a way that leaves his hands trembling with the immediacy of the energy. The memory of the retribution he inflicted on those goblins the night is refreshed, an emotional upwelling of the righteous anger as he released years of agony that had been weighing on his soul. When he opens his eyes, a puddle of water pools on the floor in front of him.

Grotto will try to find more about this god to see how he can help. The runes sunk into his flesh in the dream make Grotto think he carries some sort of mantle for the good of this land. Grotto knows he was chosen for a reason.

Kysek pulls both Shadow and Romulus aside. “You are both better spell casters than I; will you both help me? I’ll perform and learn what I can. But I require help to make this happen and make a larger difference in our battles to come.”

"I can surely assist and might I recommend a permanent enchantment of Arcane Sight as well. Nice to see what is the good loot or what axe to avoid being hit with as soon as possible. Am I right?” Shadow says as he claps his hands in excitement.

Kysek pours himself into study, his keen mind memorizing the complex runes and incantations for each of the three spells. By dinner, he believes he has mastered the forms for all three of the new enchantments.

Once Romulus awakes, he goes for a walk on the edge of town, taking in the terrain and studying its defensibility. Not liking what he finds, he retreats to the main hall where Commander Parnitha has been giving her briefings and begins to prepare his magic and consult a map of the town. Once this has been completed, he returns to the border and begins casting, reshaping the earth into protective bulwarks, berms meant to channel the enemy along predetermined paths, and ditches that will slow the advance of foot soldiers and their mounts.

When Raven sees the work Romulus is doing, he pulls all of the scouts he can get his hands on and has them begin fashioning stakes and planting them in the berms along the approaches to the town.

Cedron works with Commander Parnitha, Raven, Romulus, and Ornforithalas to help the troops recover from their double time march. He barks orders at those managing food and lodging; meanwhile coordinates with the blacksmiths and stables to prepare weapons and animals for the upcoming battle. Cedron sends all manner of staff in all directions masterfully orchestrating chaos, while working the military leadership on the next steps. “Rest up! Eat well! We have much to do and we need our strength!”

Grotto, who has made his way to kitchen, yells back, "I'm cooking fast as I can! Get in here and help!"

Ra’ziir reaches out to Raven via their shared Mindlink, “We are strategizing our attack on the nearest enemy encampment. The goal at present is for a few of us to infiltrate the encampment, stir up some unrest and in the confusion launch an Arcane assault. Then we lead them-slash-retreat to a choke-point to take out as many as possible. The locations of each phase of the plan is the main camp that we have identified and a choke point Kysek found while scouting the area. That said, depending on the condition of the troops, we could potentially delay so our forces are well rested… Please advise.”

"I have your scouts planting stakes in the defensive earthworks Romulus has created at the north end of town. They will be ready to fight by nightfall but we may want to give them until morning."

All of the wizards meet at the warehouse where the griffons are being stabled and begin comparing spells, making sure to plan for some overlap in capabilities while leaving no area uncovered in their contingencies.

MEANWHILE, IN SILVANOST

The panic from the night before has largely subsided. The various noble heads of House Protector, Mystic, Protector, Shaper, and Servitor have all issued statements that there is no cause for worry and that there is a new plan to deal with the invading forces.
