Appearance: Anastasia Volkhova is a graceful Russian woman in her early twenties, with dark hair usually worn in an elegant bun, striking brown eyes, and the poised, athletic build of a trained ballerina. Her refined beauty and effortless composure allow her to appear equally at home on a theater stage, at a diplomatic reception, or in the shadows of a covert operation. She has a small scar on the inside of her left wrist.

Background: Anastasia Volkhova was born in Perm on July 22, 1945, and recruited into the Winter Conservatory at the age of twelve. She completed her training four years later and, by sixteen, was serving as a Soviet intelligence operative. Following a mission in Berlin, she fled the program shortly before her eighteenth birthday and subsequently established herself as an independent agent.
    Anastasia quickly discovered that espionage was expensive. For several years she supported herself through a combination of legitimate performances, occasional contract work, and whatever resources she could acquire in the course of her operations, but by 1966 her finances were becoming increasingly precarious. While in London that year, she encountered a Barbie doll in a department store and realized that her unusual combination of beauty, fashion, ballet, international travel, and very real adventures could itself be marketable.
     The resulting Battlerina fashion-doll line was wildly successful and soon expanded into children's comics and a series of  novelettes. The stories presented highly fictionalized versions of Anastasia's exploits, transforming classified operations, dangerous adversaries, and occasional allies into colorful popular entertainment while providing her with an independent source of funding.
     The 1980s saw a major revival of the Battlerina brand.

The original fashion doll was reinvented as a smaller action figure equipped with increasingly extravagant combat gear, while a Saturday-morning animated series introduced the International Dance Intelligence Network (I.D.I.N.) and adapted Anastasia's Cold War adventures with only the most casual regard for what had actually happened.
     The concept was so successful, that the US government copied it to fund aspects of the Fifty-State Initiative.

Balifor Bay - Aftermath

22nd Gildember 348 AC As the echoes of the explosions die away, the group moves in to investigate the remains. Shadow and Cedron remain aloft, scouring the forest for any other creatures that may be lurking nearby but spot nothing. Cedron glides along the back trail, looking for signs of where the monsters may have been lurking. After several minutes, he locates a spot where it looks like several creatures may have been watching the party from the night before. Grotto grabs the handle of his trapped axe and heaves, tearing it free from the draconian statue. The scarred dwarf laughs, "Well, I've seen folks full of hot air before but this one wins! He deflated and flew around like some sort of balloon!" His eyes dart from one companion to the next, taking in their injuries. Raven Keep - The Border Forest, Dalelands

Raven Keep was the name of the fortress my players' adventuring party established in the Border Forest on the edge of Dalelands, just north of Daggerdale.  It served as their home and base of operations for the first several years of their adventuring careers.  They eventually tore down the original keep and built a new, larger keep on the site of the original one.  The keep was eventually abandoned although the party's priests and wizards warded it heavily before departing as individual members of the group had departed over the years in pursuit of their own interests. The party has finished building its expanded fortress on the site of the original Raven Keep. The main intent of the new keep’s construction was to achieve a more effective use of space while retaining the “feel” of the original structure. Alien Abduction Side Quest

At one point, I had a player who had to leave the campaign for awhile.  The party was exploring the Island of Iron Statues on Hyboria and I had the character leave and head back to the cove where the ship was anchored.  Along the way, he was abducted by aliens (just to make things interesting).  However, when it was time for him to rejoin the party, I had a lot of explaining to do... this is a summary of the events that occurred while he was away....  I haven't changed any of the text except to correct some spelling errors that I have noticed in the three-ish (?) years since this solo adventure took place.  The player eventually left the campaign again and his character was left behind in the city of Lankhmar but you never know, he may be able to rejoin the game some day. - Prologue - Felix looks around and seeing the situation at the tower is well in hand, decides to run for the ship to help the defenders there.
