Silvanost - The Return (Part 2)

22nd Gildember 348 AC

The guard captain tells Lorraine about the summoned storm and the dragonmen, how they turned to stone or exploded when slain, and how two of his scouts were slain in battle. The healer sends word to Alara, asking the scribe from House Recorder to come and hear his tale. The ebony-haired elf soon arrives, accompanied by Agnes who becomes visibly distraught as she listens.

"But who could create such abominations," she asks, her eyes troubled and distant. Her gaze hardens, "Tell me more about these creatures."

Alara speaks, "I will inform Councilman Elamyar. He is a member of House Recorder. I will ask him to convene the Council. They will know what to do."

Lorraine nods, "I will see what we can do for the injured. The wounds do not seem too bad - it looks like these boys did a good job with their initial treatments."

Cedron begins working with the healers. Helping when allowed and observing and watching their techniques otherwise. He is joined by Grotto. The healers unwrap wounds and cleaning cuts and punctures with watered down wine, check stitching, and reapply bandages.

Ornforithalas then pays visits to the homes of the fallen to deliver the news of their passing. Accompanied by Kysek, Arthur, and Raven, the guard captain repeats his story to the scouts' next of kin.

As he listens to Ornforithalas, Raven reflects on allies he has lost over the years - elven followers killed fighting Zhentarim forces, friends like Zaeran Quickslayer who died fighting drow beneath the Twisted Tower of Ashaba, Shaerlynn Stormrider who was killed by undead at the Battle of Bones, Brannen Morningmist, numerous sailors aboard the Blazing Cutlass and Siren's Reach, his cousin Valmiss who was sucked into the Nine Hells by a trapped chest in the underdark city of Shaboath, all of them lost.

Meanwhile, Romulus talks with Ra'ziir and Shadow, telling them what he learned in the Towers of Wayreth - that he must summon and bind a Time Elemental to repair Raven's magical bracers.

Afterwards, Shadow checks on Cassidy to see how he is. The drow pulls him aside, “Make sure you get something to eat and rest. If I know my friends we'll be on the move again soon. Not sure if you want to continue to come with us. If so, you’re more than welcome my friend.”

Cassidy looks mildly insulted. "Are you kidding? Of course I'm coming with. I wouldn't miss this for the world. I think I need to learn to fight though. My hoopak stones were basically useless against that sorcerer back there."

Shadow looks thoughtful for a moment and then smiles, “I may have something that will help you even the playing field and keep your distance from them in case they blow up. And Grotto’s weapon almost got stuck in the one that turned to stone, so stabbing one might disarm you. So keeping your distance is advised….” Shadow begins rummaging around in his bag, looking for something and pulls out an elegant Drow hand-crossbow. “This should be about your size. Here. See what you think. Ever use a crossbow?”

Cassidy replies, "No. I never have. It's so small, though. How would shooting an enemy with this bring any different from hitting them with one of my stones?"

"It has a bit of magic behind it to give it a extra punch. Plus, I have a collection of poison. Not sure what will work on their constitution but it might be an interesting experiment.”

Several hours later, Alara returns. "The Council has agreed to see you. Two of its members are away from the city but they will return in four days' time."
