The Crossover I Didn’t Know I Needed

I was going through some old posts last night and struck upon an idea.

Birds Aren't Real + Lawyer Dog + Magic Pickle + Superhuman Registration Act = one crazy adventure seed

Hicksville - while patrolling the city, searching for signs of the Brotherhood of Evil Produce, Weapon Kosher comes across a glitching Pigeon-bot that is attacking a random citizen. The Magic Pickle intervenes but is arrested for not being registered with the 50-State Initiative.

Lawyer Dog is appointed as his defense attorney.

08 Deepkolt 349 AC Romulus turned as reinforcements from the Ravagers of Kern rounded the corner two blocks away. They advanced at a trot, feet falling in step. Shields held at the ready, heavy chopping swords in their hands. Loose bits of gravel at Macula's feet rattled as they approached. The archmage shook his head. He raised his hand and spoke a single word. Frost evaporated. Breath stopped fogging in the air. The spell swept forward sucking every ounce of moisture from its borders. Skin shriveled. Eyes sank into hollow sockets. Skin pulled tight across bones as the muscles beneath were desiccated. Rank after rank of ogre crashed to the ground - dead of dehydration. Osse - The Forgotten Continent of the Forgotten Realms

Osse is one least detailed continents of the Forgotten Realms.   There is almost no canon information regarding it or its inhabitants.   Even the Forgotten Realms wiki has little to say about this Australian-analog. So, of course, my players will be going there eventually .   I sat down with what little information I had and began fleshing out ideas for what I feel should be there.   It isn’t far from Kara-Tur and that got me to thinking about Monster Island from the old Godzilla movies so I decided that Osse must be the spawning ground for Kaiju.   There is also no equivalent (at last not really) for the myths of Atlantis so I made the interior of the continent home to my own version of that as well.   This is what I came up with. Raven Keep - The Border Forest, Dalelands

Raven Keep was the name of the fortress my players' adventuring party established in the Border Forest on the edge of Dalelands, just north of Daggerdale.  It served as their home and base of operations for the first several years of their adventuring careers.  They eventually tore down the original keep and built a new, larger keep on the site of the original one.  The keep was eventually abandoned although the party's priests and wizards warded it heavily before departing as individual members of the group had departed over the years in pursuit of their own interests. The party has finished building its expanded fortress on the site of the original Raven Keep. The main intent of the new keep’s construction was to achieve a more effective use of space while retaining the “feel” of the original structure. Beldam (Other Mother from Coraline)

I watched the movie “ Coraline ” for the first time this weekend.   Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen snippets of the film here and there over the years and I recognized the character when the movie started but I have never sat down and Watched the movie (or read the book).   By the time the show was over, I have to admit that I was fascinated by the entire thing.   The animation and pacing were incredibly well done and the main antagonist was delightfully wicked.   This is who I want to focus on today – Beldam, a.k.a. the Other Mother.   Some viewers may think that she was some sort of demon, offering children their heart’s desire in exchange for their souls, much like a crossroads demon but I feel like she more closely resembles a faerie, a member of the Unseelie Court who is allowed a great deal of independence in her operations.   I also think that since the protagonist, Coraline, was just a child that Beldam wouldn’t necessarily have been overly power...

Dungeons & Dragons and Creeks & Crawdads

I apologize for posting this before it was ready.   I sat down the other day and hammered out some thoughts but in my rush, I failed to include any sort of context for my plan to incorporate Creeks and Crawdads into my ongoing D&D campaign. “What?” you ask.   “These are two entirely different games, two entirely different genres of games.   How can you possibly put these two systems together in the same campaign?” I’m glad you asked.   Let’s stop for a moment and look at the “canon” background for Creeks and Crawdads.   You, the player, assume the role of barely sentient crayfish after mankind wipes itself out in a full-scale nuclear war. Yeah…that’s nothing like D&D…  But what if, instead of nukes, we substitute something…magical?
