Day Four of the Odinsleep (Idunn Vanishes and Wolf Pack Tactics)
Day Four of the Odinsleep (5pm)
Munin nods in agreement, “I remember. We have somewhere else to be. Kaniŋ, will you be returning to the battlefield with us?”
The crow nods, “Sure, I have to practice in my new form…and with a new weapon.” The two ravens and the crow take flight, soaring through the air, weaving between trees and back out over the plains of battle as they fly back toward the city of Asgard. Korbin, or Kanin, as he is now known to Hugin and Munin can’t help but notice the Valkyries gathering over the city, circling high above a section of wall nearest the fjord.

Idunn looks up. In the distance, she can see an entire flight of Valkyries closing in on the group’s position atop the wall. The goddess shakes her head, despairing for a moment that Thor, the war god Tyr, or even her husband Bragi have not yet arrived to lend their aid against the massed giants. Tears stream down her face as she hears the Jotun’s axe bite into one of her trees and she is overcome with anger and shame at having failed to stop their incursion into the orchard. She breaks away from the fighting and races toward the invader, leaping through the air and landing on the giant’s back and shouts “GO TO HEL!”
The goddess and the Jotun both vanish from view with the deafening peal of thunder as air rushes in to fill the empty space they just vacated.
Arthur spits blood and stands up straight, raising his chin in defiance of the mighty Jotun’s assault. He lifts his sword and shield, “So this is where my fate will be decided.” The paladin lifts Lawbringer and swings with all of his might. The fiery silvered blade cuts deeply into the giant’s flesh, drawing howls of pain and rage and a second blow stabs down through the instep of the foot and sinks into the cyclopean stones atop the wall. The holy warrior jerks the blade free and steps in close once more for a final blow that strikes with enough force to send tingles of pain up his own arm.
Drax, still lurking invisibly takes the opportunity provided by Arthur’s distraction to launch his own attacks. The assassin flickers into view as he strikes, flashing in an out of visibility with a strobe-like effect. His twin blades carve into the giant’s Achilles’ Tendon, hamstrings, shredding the lateral and medial muscles with every cut. Blood pours down the giant’s leg as the flesh is sliced away in strips and pools at his feet.
Grotto calls upon Hanseath to provide him with the power of flight, knowing that he will need to be able to move quickly around the fighting if he is going to be able to keep his allies alive.
Kysek bides his time, watching as Drax works on the Jotun’s leg, waiting for it to shift its weight to the other and then lunges in, Blackflame leading the way. The thief turned mage works his swords up and down, left and right, stabbing and cutting with all the speed he can muster, and the giant stumbles, both of its legs struggling to hold its massive body upright.
Cedron orders his summoned tiger to attack before running toward Arthur, clutching his holy symbol as he calls on Malazzarr to heal the wounded paladin. The giant ignores the big cat and instead turns its axe broadwise and brings it crashing down on the minstrel priest. Part of the axe strikes the crenellations at the edge of the wall, keeping the weapon from crushing Cedron flat but the bard is knocked to the ground, his skull and shoulders throbbing from the impact and his prayer lost before it can pass his lips. The tiger jumps, tearing at the giant’s chest with its claws and biting with its terrible jaws but the Jotun’s hide armor is too thick and the big cat’s attacks prove to be ineffective.
Desmond raises his bow and begins firing at the giants, sending as many as arrows as he can toward the colossal enemy. The former Thunder River Raider aims high, shooting above the tiger clinging to the giant’s chest. His feathered shafts pepper the giant’s face and neck but the pain in its legs is too great for the titan to even notice and even then, only one arrow sinks in far enough to draw blood.
Morn continues to extort his fellow adventurers, spurring them on with every ounce of oration he can muster.
Ra’ziir hovers above the fighting, “Desperate times call for desperate measures.” He slides Deathblossom into its sheath and draws Grumbar’s Razor in its stead, the words of one of his most potent spells on his lips, “I wish I may, I wish I might, grow large enough to win this fight…” The spell takes hold almost instantly and the bladesinger’s body expands, tripling in size until he is twenty feet tall and begins to fly toward the beleaguered giant.
Hansuke is back on his feet in less than an instant, moving in a circle around the wounded Jotun’s tree-trunk leg. His fists, elbows, and knees move in a blur, pounding away at the thick flesh with enough force to shatter the bones of a lesser foe.
Niklas raises his bow, drawing and firing as quickly as he can at the monstrous titan looming over the group. Two of his shots go wide in his haste but the first and final both hit, although, like Desmond before him, only one goes in deep enough to cause the Brobdingnagian foe any harm.
The Jotun, beset on all sides by the party screams in fury and pain and begins frothing at the mouth. It stands tall, ignoring the pain from its wounds and swings its axe at the floating bladesinger. The blow strikes with the force of a thunderbolt, slamming Ra’ziir to send him flying back a couple dozen feet before the elf-emental is able to exert control over his flight spell to arrest his momentum. With its free hand, the Jotun snatches the tiger from his chest and hurls it over the side of the wall before swiping with his axe at the last place it saw the two thieves carving into his legs. Drax sees the axe coming and rolls to one side in an attempt to avoid it but is struck as the huge blade passes by him to clip Kysek as well.

The Jotuns at the base of the wall, shocked to see one of their own snatched away by a column of water begin to climb. Their hands grab the top of the wall and they begin to pull themselves up to where the battle rages above them.
- - - - -
Shadow orders his summoned elemental to join the fighting on the mainland. The watery brute slips beneath the waves, moving with unseen speed toward the far shore and crashes up onto the far shore with the inexorable strength of a tidal wave. Trolls and ogres scatter ahead of the creature, scrambling to get out of the way as it surges toward the base of the wall.
Raven begins running along the beach back toward the wall, reaching up with his free hand as Shadow swoops in to lift him from the ground. The two elves pull up, skimming over the lapping waves and rising over the dead strewn all along the battlefield. Raven yells over the sound of rushing wind, “Get me in close to the ones at the bottom of the wall!”
Ægir watches the two fly away before returning to his vigil at the edge of the beach where he, his wife, and their seven daughters make their home. The sea god whistles to his girls, beckoning them forth and they appear, each carrying empty buckets that they fill with water to take back to the large cauldron beside their home of fitted logs. The god looks back to the fighting at the base of the wall, then to his daughters once more and shakes his head, his need to protect them outweighing his desire to join in the raging chaos of war playing out before him.
