Day Five of the Odinsleep (This One Might Not Be a Pushover)
Ra'ziir concentrates, focusing on the permanent spell of Arcane Sight he cast upon himself and does a quick sweep of the room, checking for magical auras before turning his attention to the magical circle itself. The circle is indeed active and radiates powerful conjuration magic. Crackling sparks of electricity race around the circumference of the loop and the air itself smells slightly of ozone. Additionally, there is a barely perceptible flow of air from the rest of room toward the circle. The bladesinger hears the sound of breaking glass and a brief scuffle outside. He divides his attention, sending his thoughts through the telepathic bond he shares with Raven and asks, “Did you hear that? Sounds like it is below me, probably the Great Hall I passed with the crazy guy working on the abomination I told you about.”
Niklas takes in Drax's signal and pauses outside the window, waiting for whatever it is the assassin sensed to reveal itself.
Grotto's mouth drops open in shock at the speed displayed by the figure who grabbed Cedron. The dwarf pulls forth his axe, angles slightly to the side for a better line-of-sight and hurls his axe. The double-bitted weapon tumbles end over end at the elf who reaches out with his free hand and swats it aside as if shooing an annoying fly. The axe falls to the ground before rising and flying back to the dwarf's outstretched hand.
Kysek sees his friend hauled through the window and pulls his small crossbow, slamming a bolt poisoned with the venom of a purple worm, pushes off from the wall, takes aim and pulls the trigger. The bolt speeds away, straight and true, and strikes the Svartaelf in the left side of his chest, just below the heart. The bolt crumples on impact and falls away, failing to do more than put a tiny pin hole in the enemy's doublet.
Cedron, despite being taken by surprise, mouths off at his present captor, “SHAME ON YOU! That is no way to treat a guest. If you've been expecting us to visit, you could have at least left us a nice plate of cookies and some hot tea out front. Nice suit by the way.” His words are pithy but inwardly the minstrel-priest focuses on the power of his ring, invoking its telekinetic powers. A beam of force pours forth but the dark elf pushes his hand down through the energy stream and closes it over Cedron's fist. The energy flares out to the sides and in between his fingers like water through a plugged hose, gouging lines into the plaster walls and wooden floor.
The Svartaelf sneers, “You are so mighty with your tricks and magical items, little mortal, but I have fought the Odinson and survived. What hope have you of standing against me?” The half-black/half-white figures bites his thumb hard enough to draw blood and traces a rune on his forehead and speaks a single word, “HEGAL”. Dust rises from the floor and mixes with snow, ice, and broken glass the shattered window, forming large hailstones that swirl in orbits around him and Cedron, shielding them from attack.
Raven curses as Cedron disappears. He “yells” through the mindlink he has with Ra'ziir, “Cedron has been taken!” He discards the idea of carving handholds to help him climb the side of the tower and instead begins to run, racing toward the front door. As he charges toward the entrance he draws Thorgrim, knowing that the power imparted by the cursed giant-slaying sword will be needed to swiftly defeat the guard.
