What Do You Mean He Can't Climb? He's Like 30th level?!

When I went to write This Post, I was surprised to discover that Raven has basically Zero Ranks in Climb.

None.

Zilch.

Nada.

He's the highest level character in the party and can't climb any better than Farmer Fred or Joe Commoner.  Even worse, he doesn't have any magical items that confer Flight, Levitation, or Climbing ability.

Someone is definitely going to have to spend some points in areas that have been neglected over the years.

Raven walked into the tavern. The bandit leader had a knife to the bartender's throat, using him as a human shield. "That's close enough, stranger. One more step and the old man gets it." Raven slowly unbuckled his sword belt and let it drop to the floor. He removed his green jacket and hung it across the back of a chair. A smile slowly spread across the criminal's face. The Soviet Simian

Apes – gorillas, chimpanzees, and even orangutans have long been staples of the comic book genre, appearing as either enemies or allies of the protagonists and sometimes (as is the case for Detective Chimp or the Marvel Apes storyline) the protagonists themselves.   Earth-218  is no stranger to the apes-as-characters trope.   I hereby present to you a brief history of the Soviet Simian.  The characters in my current campaign will eventually cross paths with the Soviet Simian or one of the other characters from superhero campaigns I have run over the years.  Perhaps, as is traditional in most of their crossovers, the two groups will fight and then become allies to battle some villainous plot together.  Who knows?  I don't. Rocket Raccoon

On Earth-218 , Rocket is a member of the Avengers.   Based in New York City, he serves as one of their resident tech experts and offers ranged support to his comrades in combat situations.  In this world's history, Rocket was an "abandoned" test subject of the Weapon Plus Program - discarded when his creators found him unsuitable for their purposes.  He managed to survive and, after several misadventures, joined the Avengers as a full-fledged member when the Fifty-State Initiative was enacted.   He often finds himself in trouble for his outspoken opinions and politically insensitive statements.   He is an accomplished pilot, a brilliant technician, expert marksman, and master of improvisation, capable of cobbling together makeshift devices at the spur of the moment, even during combat situations alongside the Avengers. The Magic of Mario-World Power-Ups for D&D

Not so very long ago, one of my kids suggested that I write a blog post about using the Power-Ups from the Mario Brothers franchise.   Now, to be honest, the last Mario game I played was Super Mario 3 back whenever it came out but I thought, “Sure, why not?”   Well, it turns out that the number of Power-Ups has expanded exponentially in my almost 30 year absence.   Seriously, at the time of this writing, there’s like SEVENTY-NINE different ones available and that doesn’t even touch on the banana peels from Mario Kart. That said, instead of trying to stat out all of them, I’m just going to focus on the ones from the Super Mario Brothers game and call it good.   These include the Super Mushroom, the Fire Flower, the Invincibility Star, and the 1-Up Mushroom.   That’s it.   If you want the Penguin Suit, the Raccoon Suit, or a Yoshi, look somewhere else because I’m not going to cover those here.
