A Shared Universe...?

I love crossovers.  Who doesn’t?  They can make for awesome adventures. In the campaigns that I run, I like to work within the existing continuity of the worlds that I use to craft the stories for my players.

As an example, I have been rewatching "Arrow" on Netflix and Oliver Queen has just been elected mayor.  That got me thinking about another crime-fighting mayor - Michael "Mike" Haggar from the video game Final Fight.  Mike is a retired professional wrestler who was elected mayor of (wait for it) Metro City.

Which brings up the following question: what if that is the SAME Metro City that appears in the movie Megamind?  What if it was a more modern version of Metroville that appears in the movie The Incredibles?

Final Fight is set during the late 80's.  Megamind (movie released in 2010) would have been roughly 10 years old when Haggar was the mayor.  He would have been going to "shool" with Metro Man and living in the prison.

Haggar spends most of his term in office beating up street thugs and cleaning up the town.  He finally retires when Metro Man has become an adult and takes up the mantle of superhero, becoming the new Defender of Metro City.

It makes a certain amount sense (unless the events depicted in the upcoming Incredibles 2 changes things)...

1947 – Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) marries Helen Truax (Elastigirl)

1962 – Events of “The Incredibles” (date taken from a newspaper Bob is reading)

c. 1970 – Metroville is renamed Metro City as it has doubled its original size due to urban growth

1979 – Megamind and Metro Man crash land in Metro City

1980 – Bob and Helen retire from superheroics and move to Florida; Violet is in her mid-30’s, married to Tony Rydinger and has kids of her own; Dash – somewhere in his late 20s is finishing college (education major perhaps?) and Jack-Jack is away at college too.

With the Incredibles gone, the Mad Gear Gang takes over the town.

1989 – Michael “Mike” Duncan Haggar retires from Professional Wrestling and is elected Mayor of Metro City. He spends years cleaning up the town.

1999 – Metro Man takes over as the Defender of Metro City and begins battling Megamind; Mike Haggar retires.

2010 – Events of “Megamind”

Taking two (or in this case three) different stories and blending them together can be a shortcut (or more specifically, time-saving technique) DMs can use to build a "deeper" history and more detailed campaign world for you and your players.
