"Oh No, Not Goblins!"

"Oh no! Not goblins," one of my players sarcastically exclaimed (possibly with eye-rolling) when his 12th level Fighter, accompanied by an 8th-ish level Evoker and 8th-ish level Ranger, stumbled across a pack of blue-skinned goblins in the Jungles of Chult. That was before the goblin began combat by stunning the Evoker and Ranger with a mind blast. As the fighter scrambled to protect his unconscious allies from the goblin warriors, the player began to regret the hasty conclusion that the little monsters wouldn't prove to be a challenge at all.

Just goes to show that a Devious Dungeon Master can surprise even the most veteran players.

Cedron and Raven - Into the Marsh

08 Newkolt 349 AC The frog lets out a slow ribbit followed by a "One moment" and vanishes from view. A few seconds later the drawbridge begins to rattle open. The bullywug bows to Raven and Cedron then pauses and turns his head to focus one of his large eyes on the swordsman. "Well played, Majesty. Zee Sugar Plum Fairy may be on zee outs with zee River King for stopping zee war with Riverbend but zee Witchlight Monarch has done no such theeng." This area inside of the inner bailey is much quieter, with many gray-liveried servants moving about on matters of varying importance. A large pool takes up most of the chamber, leaving only a narrow walkway around the perimeter. A stairway descends into the pool on its south side but it is guarded by some kind of ogre covered in green scales with gill slits showing on either side of its neck. On this day in 1987, two Chicago-based television stations had their signals hijacked by person or persons unknown.  The first  event was stopped quickly but the second lasted a bit longer.  More than 30 years later, no suspects have ever been identified. For those of you who have been reading my stuff for awhile, you know that I am planning on having my party eventually reach Earth .  I have plotted out some unusual adventures and some strange NPCs that I think it would be cool to have them encounter (plus I just like making weird characters) and was thinking that crossing paths with Max and his "IRL" counterpart Edison could make for an interesting story. Incorporating Max into a D&D campaign... 09 Newkolt 349 AC AT SUMMERWALKER'S WAREHOUSE Shadow gathers Grotto’s armor and placed it in his bag of holding for safe keeping. With a nod to Romulus, the dark elf teleports back to the warehouse. It is late, well past midnight. Most of the elves he rescued alongside Ra’ziir, Kysek, and Raven are taking Reverie but a few of Lorraine's healers are circulating through the room, changing bandages or tending the fires that keep the warehouse warm. He finally finds Grotto asleep in his bedroll and gives him a nudge with his foot. "Ready for a surprise?" Grotto wakes from his slumber on his bed roll to find Shadow lurking above him. Day Three of the Odinsleep – 9:40 am With the darkness provided by the thick storm clouds overhead, the dark elves race toward the wall.   The horses leap rocky berms and slip past boulders and fly across the open craters left from previous battles.   The adventurers respond instantly, years of experience lending speed to their actions as they brace to receive the charge.   Hansuke drops from Raven’s shoulder as the elf leaps to the top of the stony ridge where he took cover from the Jotun’s crushing axe blows and fits an arrow to the string of Luican’s Bow.   His hands move swiftly and surely as he fires one arrow after the next into the leaders of the cavalry charge.   Each shaft flies true, piercing arms, legs, or shoulders as the riders bear down on the party’s defensive line.   As soon as his last arrow leaves the bowstring, he is in motion again, sliding down the face of the ridge and drawing Nightwatcher. I have been bouncing two ideas around for some time now as one of the potential adventures my players will undertake once they make it to Earth-218 .   In the plot I have roughed out in my head, their first appearance will draw a great deal of media attention and in turn, the government will step in to do what it can to help them return home (in exchange for certain services that will be negotiated when the time comes).   A portal will be built that should allow the adventurers to return to their own world .   This machine would be located deep within Cheyenne Mountain for security reasons so the party will come into contact with many personnel from the military.
