"Oh No, Not Goblins!"

"Oh no! Not goblins," one of my players sarcastically exclaimed (possibly with eye-rolling) when his 12th level Fighter, accompanied by an 8th-ish level Evoker and 8th-ish level Ranger, stumbled across a pack of blue-skinned goblins in the Jungles of Chult. That was before the goblin began combat by stunning the Evoker and Ranger with a mind blast. As the fighter scrambled to protect his unconscious allies from the goblin warriors, the player began to regret the hasty conclusion that the little monsters wouldn't prove to be a challenge at all.

Just goes to show that a Devious Dungeon Master can surprise even the most veteran players.

09-10 Newkolt 349 AC After taking the leader's sword, Arthur climbs onto Ag'nesallynn's back. The pair fly back toward Kashin with the dragon resuming her elven form before reaching the gate. "We will have to find somewhere to hide this chest. There ' s no way we're sneaking it into the city, but I would like to have it somewhere accessible so the people those mercenaries abused can recoup their losses." She reaches into the chest and pulls out a pouch, "But, I want to make sure Donson gets paid back. We can let him know where we hide the chest and he can make sure other merchants recover their stolen wealth." Arthur rolls his shoulder, puts on the magical goggles that allow him to see in the dark and begins to look for a spot to hide the chest. 14 Newkolt 349 AC AT THE ABANDONED TEMPLE OF KIRI-JOLITH Shadow says to Grotto “Nicely done” when shown the hole in the door.  “Tell me about our path ahead?” Grotto tells Shadow about the traps and the layout of the tomb. He takes him to the room where he heard the voice and obtained the horn, the room where he fought the slug, the murals, then finally where the preserved lays. Shadow listens as Grotto explains what the layout of the tomb is and what dangers are ahead. He peers inside and his eyes appear to glow as scans the path with Arcane Sight as they go. When they finally reach the preserved elven warrior, Shadow's mystic vision reveals an aura of Transmutation magic that seems to hold the effects of the passage of time at bay. Nothing good leads this way.” Cedron searches his vicinity, listening and looking for anything that may pose a threat. The cloud of gnats, mosquitoes, and biting flies buzz around his ears, dart toward his eyes, and keep landing on his lips. Cedron waves his hand to drive them away, a futile effort that only gives his tormentors another place to land. The bard sees that Raven suffers just as badly, his eyes narrowed. The elf looks his way, "The next time I have to go to a swamp, I'm asking Grotto for some kind of salve to keep the damn bugs off of me." 09 Newkolt 349 AC The Herald's performance ran all the way up to midnight. Mercenary thugs in the employ of the Green Dragonarmy arrived shortly thereafter to extort money from the owner, Stewart Donson. Arthur, not wanting to reveal his or Agnes’s presence in the city, did not interfere, an act that sat poorly on the conscience of both travelers. Agnes took Arthur’s hand, "My Knight, my love, we are not going to waste any more time. One of your wizard friends can send our message to my people. Right now, you and I are going to get justice for Donson and everyone else being bullied by this scum!" In the blink of an eye, Agnes the elf-girl was gone, replaced by Ag'nesallynn the Silver Dragon. Arthur grips the hilt of Lawbringer, the tone of his changing, becoming more resonate, "Let's go."
