"Oh No, Not Goblins!"

"Oh no! Not goblins," one of my players sarcastically exclaimed (possibly with eye-rolling) when his 12th level Fighter, accompanied by an 8th-ish level Evoker and 8th-ish level Ranger, stumbled across a pack of blue-skinned goblins in the Jungles of Chult. That was before the goblin began combat by stunning the Evoker and Ranger with a mind blast. As the fighter scrambled to protect his unconscious allies from the goblin warriors, the player began to regret the hasty conclusion that the little monsters wouldn't prove to be a challenge at all.

06 Deepkolt 349 AC PROTECTOR'S TOWER On the dawn of the day after the battle, two platoons of elves arrive to reinforce the city's defenders. Commander Parnitha summons all of the city's defenders to meet with her at the Protector's Tower, a slender crystal-topped spire overlooking the river. Dozens of elves have gathered in the entry hall, known as the Ranger's Gate. Living trees are interwoven through the pale stone walls, supporting the upper levels while narrow windows of crystal admit wan winter light. A banner bearing the sigil of House Protector hangs from the central pillar. Racks of weapons, mostly bows and spears, line the walls. 05 Deepkolt 349 AC PARNITHA'S COMMAND CENTER Cedron steps into the role of administrator. He begins coordinating resources and responsibilities of units of healers, communications, field transport back into battle readiness. “There’s no time to waste. We must be prepared to stand strong!. Prepare the children and elders to be ready to take shelter!” He commands, having seen first hand the fury that can be unleashed by dragons. Romulus nods, "They know what we can do now. They won't commit their full strength against us. They will probe, draw us out, and then strike elsewhere, knowing we can't be everywhere at once." The archmage walks over to Commander Parnitha's war table and looks at the map, looking for vulnerable spots. "And they will send dragons to everywhere we are not." Greta the Climate Goblin - Shadows in the Dark

THE BUS STOP Dusty pulled out of the parking lot and headed toward town. The tension in the air was thick. The only sounds were those of the tires on asphalt and the purr of the engine. Greta sat up front in the passenger seat, giving Dusty directions and in less than five minutes, the van pulled up to the bus stop and its shelter. He parked and killed the engine. Everyone sat quietly for a moment. Then Greta threw open her door and stepped out of the van. She grabbed the handle of the sliding door and pulled it open, allowing everyone else to get out. The streetlight buzzed overhead, casting a harsh yellow-white glare. The glass shelter reflected everyone's movements as they piled out. The Battle of Tarithnesti - Aftermath

04 Deepkolt 349 AC Kysek, Ra'ziir, Cedron, and Shadow all fly over the battlefield, searching for survivors and any goblins who may be fleeing. Smoke rises from blasted craters and burned bodies. Romulus' conjured blizzard continues to rage throughout the remainder of the day and well into the night. Elven scouts, under the supervision of Commander Parnitha, Ornforithalas, and Raven comb the field, finishing off those few humanoids unfortunate enough to have the survived the overwhelming magical onslaught unleashed upon them by the party's wizards. Raven begins counting the fallen and while he is unable to entire the raging snowstorm, he is able to confirm a little over one-hundred slain enemies. Sifting through the pieces of bodies left behind after being ripped apart by blasting spells, he is able to comfortably estimate at least forty more, although he admits that this number is probably low - bringing the confirmed number of those slain in at around seventy percent of ...

Sometimes, I will pop in my CD of these and sing along, waiting for ... I don't know, inspiration or at least a sense of escape. Accidentally Funny

Humor is not that unusual in gaming sessions.   When it happens on accident however, it can create long-lasting memories. Once upon a time, I ran a solo adventure for a dwarf named Happy Jack.   Happy was a psychic and an inventor of sorts.   From the pressurized wooden keg full of alchemist’s fire worn on his back with the spray nozzle and sparker to his own brand of beer, Happy Jack was an innovator.   His player always made sure to take good notes of his adventures so he could review what had happened and plan Happy’s next move. For the adventure, I adapted the AD&D 2 nd ed module “Wizard’s Challenge”.   I placed my telling of this tale in Eveningstar in northern Cormyr.   The village, a favorite retreat of King Azoun’s was ruled over by Tessaril Winter.   She was known for mentoring mages of all talents and was a magnet for hopeful apprentices.
