Western Heroes Card Game

I found this at an Antique Shop while working today.


The directions on the back of the box give me the impression that this game is basically "Go Fish" but you need four cards instead of two and different heroes have different point values.


Included in the deck are:

Annie Oakley (1 point)
Calamity Jane (1 point)
Wild Bill Hickok (1 point)
Bat Masterson (2 points)
Clay Hollister (2 points)
Jim Bowie (2 points)
Pat Garret (2 points)
Kit Carson (3 points)
Matt Wayne (3 points)
Wyatt Earp (4 points)
Buffalo Bill (5 points)


The fact that both both female characters are each only worth one point is probably a sign of the times (game is from the 1950s)

What bothered me was that I didn't recognize two of the name (Clay Hollister and Matt Wayne). I Googled - repeatedly and with a couple different variations on my search terms and have come to the conclusion that Clay was a fictional character and the Matt I keep finding is a writer. I think I would have substituted Bass Reeves and (maybe?) Charles Goodnight in their place though.

I also saw that individual cards are selling for $3.42 on eBay so the $3.50 I plunked down seems like a steal in retrospect.

Yes, But... What if it was Shadowrun (Part 2)?

So, still really grooving on the whole cyberpunk/ Shadowrun aesthetic. We join this scene, already in progress, after Raven's first run-in with a "modern" (for the setting) mobile enemy. I am picturing the hoverbike to look pretty much like the Speeder Bikes from "Return of the Jedi" but with a chain gun and grenade launcher in place of the laser cannon and have drawn a not-so-good piece of concept art and even put some stats together but I digress... "... and that is how you reload the minigun. Any questions?" Raven shook his head and Butch closed the front panel on the hoverbike. "I have arranged for the entire system to function as a cohesive whole but I totally 'Frankenstein-ed' the weapon system together - General Electric Minigun, AresTech Grenade Launcher, precision aligned and calibrated with tech from Stark Industries." Beldam (Other Mother from Coraline)

I watched the movie “ Coraline ” for the first time this weekend.   Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen snippets of the film here and there over the years and I recognized the character when the movie started but I have never sat down and Watched the movie (or read the book).   By the time the show was over, I have to admit that I was fascinated by the entire thing.   The animation and pacing were incredibly well done and the main antagonist was delightfully wicked.   This is who I want to focus on today – Beldam, a.k.a. the Other Mother.   Some viewers may think that she was some sort of demon, offering children their heart’s desire in exchange for their souls, much like a crossroads demon but I feel like she more closely resembles a faerie, a member of the Unseelie Court who is allowed a great deal of independence in her operations.   I also think that since the protagonist, Coraline, was just a child that Beldam wouldn’t necessarily have been overly power...

Cedron and Raven - Against the Green Knight!

The bard and the swordsman set out, following the directions provided by Marzipan. Trees, heavy with ripe, sugary plums, line the trail they walk along. Most of these creatures; bears, hippos, sheep, a monkey wearing a hat, are no more than knee-high but the one giraffe they see rises at least as tall as their hip. Silvanost - Grotto Returns, Shadow Departs, Kysek and Ra’ziir Join the Griffon Riders

07 - 08 Newkolt 349 AC AT THE ABANDONED TEMPLE OF KIRI-JOLITH Grotto marvels at the molted sword and the power it has. He puts it back in its sheath draws it again and walks about to play with this new invisibility. "This could come in handy on my axe!" Thinks the wet dwarf. Grotto then examines the jars. It dawns on him that the horn from the other room and the horns on the jar lids must be the holy symbol of the war god! "It must have been the good that spoke to me! Surely there is a way to reinstate gods here then!" Grotto thinks excitedly! Grotto gathers all the jars and looks around the room one last time for any other hidden goodies, clues, or any thing his recently deceased foe may have dropped. After which, Grotto leaves the chamber to the main room, careful to avoid the pit trap, and heads up the stairs to the surface. So...after we get through the whole story I have planned and the characters can use Malazzarr's trees to go back and revisit worlds , this could be a thing... - - - - - Raven twisted the throttle on the hoverbike's steering column and pulled back. The repulsorlift vehicle screamed into the sky, the thunder of its engine and the roar of the wind was almost loud enough to drown out the sirens of the corporate security vehicle chasing him.  The world had changed dramatically in the thirty-eight years that had passed since his last visit. Many of the metahuman superheroes he had fought alongside had retired, replaced by a younger generation of cybernetically-enhanced individuals in the employ of the mega-corporations who, for all intents and purposes, had replaced the governments of entire nations.
