08 Newkolt 349 AC Raven walked out of trees and strode onto the avenue. The prisoners noticed him almost immediately. One archer, his arm bound in a crude, bloodied bandage cried out, "RUN!" Another shouted, "GET OUT OF HERE! THEY'LL KILL YOU!" The commotion drew the attention of the nearest guards. Two ogres exchanged amused glances. They pushed away from the line of prisoners and lumbered down the avenue toward the lone elf. Each stood nearly twice Raven's height. Iron-bound clubs rested lazily across their shoulders. Raven stopped walking. The ogres reached him. One reached out with a thick, meaty hand to grab him by the shoulder. A grin spread across its face. A single step to the right. 07 Deepkolt 349 AC THE PROTECTOR'S TOWER For the first time since sunrise, there is no immediate threat to the city. The defenders of Tarithnesti stand gathered at the base of the Protector's Tower. Over the course of the next thirty minutes, the gemstone blackens and begins to crumble. The magical energy that lent its strength to the bodies of those defending the city fades with it. The bodies of four dragons lie as grim reminders of what was thrown against them. Two red dragons. One white. One green. Their massive forms dominate sections of the streets and forest edge, their scales already becoming trophies, salvage, and eventually memorials. Kysek and Raven explain that they had fought two additional greens on their way back to the city. A ripple spreads through the survivors. Six dragons and the city was still standing. 07 Deepkolt 349 AC THE MARCH WEST Raven stopped long enough to pick up two skins of water and some waybread on his path out of town. The first few hours were quiet, almost peaceful, especially compared to the chaos of the morning. The forests of Silvanesti had always carried sound differently. They were designed and sculpted to channel the whisper of leaves and the distant calls of birds, combining them into a musical backdrop. Now there was only the wind. Raven moved through the trees at a pace no normal soldier could maintain. His boots carried him over roots, uneven ground, and steep slopes. The subtle enchantments woven into their soles refused to let exhaustion claim him. But they did not make the journey easy. Raven passed several homesteads early on, including the one where he, Ra'ziir, and Grotto defeated a platoon of Baaz Draconians and Stone Giants. 07 Deepkolt 349 AC ON THE BANKS OF THE THON-THALAS Grotto casts a pair of spells, one to double his size and the other to make his skin as hard as the rock he was sculpted from . Suitably enhanced, he nods to Ornforithalas, "Let's go!" The scouts move forward, as quiet as the grave and close in on the enemy. Once they are close enough, Grotto leaps up and shouts, "COME FIGHT ME YOU OVERGROWN GECKOS! THE LAST THING YOU'LL SEE IS MY AXE AS IT SPLITS YIUR SKULL!" With that, he hurls his blade. It tumbles end over end and strikes the nearest kapak in the center of the chest, bowling it over and knocking it into a nearby baaz. Grotto's axe flies back to his hand as the elves open fire. Dozens of arrows streak into the mass of reptilian troops. Four go down in the opening seconds of the fight. Monster Truckers Revisited - Waffle House

Earth-3845 Several months ago, I picked up a copy of the Monster Truckers RPG. I have not really had much opportunity to do anything with it aside from making some characters . I spitballed a couple first-adventure ideas but nothing really felt right. Then last night, as I was putting the kids to bed, "Turn the Page" began playing in my head. Within minutes, I had plotted the story beats for three adventures and had put together some lore for the setting.  Despite many of their locations being destroyed during the war, Waffle Houses remain open across what is left of the US south. Most operate under FEMA Yellow conditions - generator power, propane-fed grills, some menu items are unavailable but the coffee is always hot and fresh (even if nobody knows where they source their beans from). The  jukeboxes still play music. Waffle House serves as Accorded Neutral Ground , a policy which is rigorously enforced, serving all comers, regardless of sobriety, criminal or metaphysical...

Benjamin Franklin's Lightning Musket

I am thinking  about a prequel for the Western campaign I am going to run. It would be based on my own world but use concepts from the Colonial Gothic setting and 3.5e rules for compatibility with my other campaigns . Magic would exist but practitioners stay mostly hidden because of the Salem Witch Trials, the Inquisition, etc . The party would be mostly spies, saboteurs, and troubleshooters in the employ of the Continental Army or the Sons of Liberty. There would be some Steampunk-esque inventions running around but these would be one-of-a-kind items and only rarely encountered.  One example of this technology would be Benjamin Franklin's Lightning Musket . This weapon is made of stout red oak and reinforced with brass fittings. When the trigger is pulled a forked bolt of lightning erupts from the weapons twin barrels. The bolt has a range of 150' but is wildly inaccurate, incurring a -4 penalty to attack rolls. The weapon is powered by a battery that sits on top of th...
