Balifor Bay - Book Club?

21 Gildember 348 AC

Shadow will take time to study his Spellbook and make some changes to include some teleport and tiny hut inclusions among others.

Cassidy sits down next to Shadow, produces a pair of bifocals from one of his seemingly innumerable pockets and slips them on. He also pulls out a battered  leather-bound folio and flips it open. Most of the pages seem to be stained with tea or soup or jelly or tea And soup And jelly. He leans toward Shadow, "Have you ever read 'The Astounding Tales of Penny Dreadful'? They're about a young woman who tells stories to this king who plans to kill her but she always stops before the end of the story so he lets her live so he can hear the next part. The next night, as soon as she finishes the tale, she begins another one, and the king, eager to hear the conclusion of that tale as well, postpones her execution once again."

“Fantastic way to keep your head on your shoulders!  Let me finish this spell that will make us a magic hut and you and read me one or maybe two.”

"I know just the one of start with. It's about two friends who like to drink wine! And, they go down into this deep cellar to find a special cask of it!" Cassidy smiles and begins flipping pages as he searches for the spot where that particular story begins.

Arthur reads more of "Creatures of Limbo". The words printed on the pages dance and shift, in font, color, and placement. The First Paladin of Malazzarr furrows his brow amd concentrates, trying to force the text into a comprehensible format. He grits his teeth, his finger tracing the words on each sheet of parchment contained within, as if physically restraining the words to keep them from dancing away as he reads about Githzerai and Slaadi, the Chaos Beast, and a surprisingly peaceful Halfling village.

Kysek; hearing Ornforithalas’ comment in regards to the weather changing so quickly contemplates if perhaps it could be magical in nature as opposed to natural.

Grotto enjoys a hot meal and the music his friends play. He moves closer to the fire to warm himself. "Those cold blooded Lizard folk can not be moving too fast in this ice storm", Grotto says to the group. "Hopefully it will slow them even more than it slows us. Maybe we will get lucky and find tracks broken in the icy ground!" Grotto goes into the woods to chop a small tree down with his axe. The physical activity warms his body. He throws the green wood on the blazing fire hoping it will burn thru the night.

Ornforithalas erects a lean-to to provide cover from the freezing rain and posts his sentries beyond the firelight to preserve their night vision. The guard captain gives each a shorter shift so they can get warm by the fire. He consults his map, trying to figure out where these lizardmen may be heading. "There isn't much out in this end of the realm. Felinosti is here on the coast but it's small, even compared to Alinosti." He motions to an otherwise unmarked patch of forest near the center of the map. "And then there's the Webbed Woods - but I can't think of a reason why anyone would want to go there."

“Webbed Woods?” Kysek asks. He adds, “What lurks within the forest? I’m leaning more and more toward some rather powerful magic being employed herein. Oddly changing weather, our quarry moving to an area other folk dare not tread? There are spells to influence weather, and control beasts. It’s possible our quarry may know of our movement on them. Perhaps they’re looking to gain control over the foul beasts within the woods?”

"The Webbed Woods are the heart of the old forest. It's the only part of Silvanesti that remains untouched by House Shaper. We don't even patrol there. It is in a completely natural state," explains Ornforithalas.

Meanwhile, in Alinosti...

“That’s what they’re saying…” Ra’ziir answers as he takes in the surroundings. We’ll have to wait until I can prepare the spell of teleportation again before we can return to the others, but that’s still faster than you trekking cross-country.”

"Well, if we have to wait, we might as well get a drink," Raven replies. He leads the way to the Otter's Bed. "What makes the others think that it's lizardmen we are after?"

Ra'ziir describes the tracks the party found and their estimate of the creature's size. Raven listens and nods. "It would make for the biggest lizardman I've ever heard of. Except maybe for that one lizard chief we fought in Chelimber."
