Balifor Bay - The First Battle
22nd Gildember 348 AC
Shadow launches himself into the sky, uttering. "μεγαλύτερη αορατότητα" amd vanishing from view, cloaked in a spell of invisibility.
As soon as the golden dragon-man yells for its troops to attack, Nightwatcher flies from its sheath, appearing in Raven's hand as if by magic. He races forward, veering to the right to engage the enemies on that side. The first creature he reaches, swings its axe at him but he nimbly ducks the blow, drawing his adamantite sword across its belly. His momentum carries him through to the next creature as well and he angles his blow upward, hitting just beneath that one's left arm, severing it at the shoulder.
As the creatures die, they both turn to stone.
Romulus pulls Macula back a step and quickly utters, "Nusfipleopip't txusf". A glowing sword materializes in midair beside him and he thrusts his hand forward, directing the weapon to attack alongside Raven.
The blade swoops in, slashing one of the thick-bodied warriors across the face, slicing through scales and bone and brains with ease. This monster is also petrified in the instant its life leaves it body, leaving a third statue standing in the clearing.
Ra’ziir draws Grumbar’s Razor, ash pouring from the obsidian blade. The Elfemental takes a quick step forward and to the left, luring half of the dragonfolk his way. They race toward him, axes and swords at the ready. He gracefully sidesteps the blows of the first two, a quick riposte opens the throat of the first one to cross blades with him. The dead Draconian turns instantly to stone as he kicks the second brutish warrior in the face. Its head rocks back, teeth clacking together loudly enough to be heard over the opening din of the battle. He executes a quick spin, dodging the axe strike of the third.
The last three rush past him.
Ornforithalas levels his spear, raises his shield and orders the scouts to protect the spellcasters. The trio of remaining dragonmen crash through the shield wall, each of them cutting down one of the more slender elves. Ornforithalas leaps into the fray, bashing one of the attackers in the face with his shield, driving him back before stabbing him once in the shoulder and then in the arm.
The wounded monster snarls and plants its feet, obviously preparing to leap at the guard captain.
"Sure do wish these were goblins!" Grotto says slyly. "Guess, these guys will do for now. We can skin them afterwards and make some fine boots!" he shouts to the group. Grotto then let's out a mighty battle cry, "Raaaaaawr! For Hanseath!" He hurls his throwing axe at the enemy facing Ornforithalas. The weapon tumbles end over end, striking the draconian in the face, splitting its skull, leaving only three foes on the left flank. As the slain creature turns to stone, the axe becomes trapped in the moment before it can fly back to Grotto's outstretched hand.
Kysek twists the gemstone on his ring and vanishes from view. He begins moving left, angling to avoid harming any of his conpanions. He fishes a small glass cone from one of the many pouches hanging from his belt, long years of practice negating any need to look as he focuses his power. He utters, "Conus Frigidi" and extends his hand. Instantly, all of the radiant heat is drawn away, sucked into a void that leaves only absolute cold behind.
The two dragonmen caught in the cone are instantly frozen solid, entombed in a thin layer of ice while simultaneously being turned to stone within.
Arthur concentrates, focusing on a spot slightly behind the leader of the dragonmen, calling upon the power of his helm and vanishes from where he stands. He reappears in the same moment, standing in the place he was staring at. Lawbringer blazes with holy light in the presence of evil. The paladin raises the weapon to strike but the creature snarls and hisses out an quick incantation and snarls, "Iwesf't cmedl vipvedmit!"
Thick, black tentacles erupt from the ground at Arthur's feet and begin wrapping around his legs. He brings his blade down, slashing and stomping the inky tentacles.
The Witching Cloak flares outward, propelling Cedron into the air. He soars above the battle, reaching into one of the enchanted cape's many folds amd draws forth a horn taken from Little Boy Blue. He picks his targets, the three remaining dragonmen on the right, angling in such a way as to not catch any his allies and blows a long blast. A thunderous cacophony of sound erupts from the bell. The sonic assault tears a furrow into the ground, driving the enemy like leaves before a storm. Two crash into nearby trees and the third is flattened by the power of the blow. All are turned to stone by the time Cedron banks to make a second pass.
Cassidy slips a short staff with a Y-shaped fork in the end and slips a stone into a pouch hanging from the tines. He hauls back on the staff and then flings it forward, launching the stone at the gold-skinned enemy leader. The missile hits, glancing off of the monster's scales and bounces away with no indication that the strike was even felt.
((For those keeping track, only three Draconians remain, one Ra'ziir kicked in the face, one unwounded one facing him, and the golden-scaled leader fighting Arthur)).
