Balifor Bay - Short Work
19 Gildember 348 AC
Shadow plants one hand upon Cassidy's shoulder and hoists him off of the ground. He speaks a single word, "Μύγα," and rises unto the air, carrying the kender aloft. “Time to step lively my little friend and stay out of the way. You are about to see some amazing things. My companions will make quick work of these beasts."
Kysek twists his ring, vanishing from sight and clicks the heels of his boots, activating their power of levitation and rises into the air.
Ornforithalas calls to his men, "Form a shield wall! Protect the wizards!" The scouts form a line, raising their shields and leveling their spears towards the threat as Ra'ziir unleashes an arc of lightning. The actinic bolt dances between the two beasts and smoke begins to rise from the flesh beneath the carapaces. He draws Grumbar’s Razor, its blade forged from a single massive shard of obsidian harvested from Mount Uungau, a volcano that rises above the jungles of Klesh on the world of Nehwon. Smoke billows from the weapon, creating a screen that conceals him from the enemy.
Grotto plants his feet, axe in hand and calls out to his companions, "Let's not waste our efforts and bodies on these. Save your health for the upcoming battle ahead!"
Arthur draws Lawbringer and his shield. He silently wills the shield's wings to appear and flies into the air, joining Shadow and the now invisible Kysek.
Cedron's cloak unfurls, answering his unspoken orders and extends one hand. A crossbow magically appears, summoned from the extra-dimensional storage space concealed with his glove and squeezes the trigger. A bolt of energy flies from the weapon, streaking through the air and blasts into the nearest monster.
Shadow scans the water further out to sea, searching for other threats. "This is how we fight and work together. It is a three and sometimes more, dimensional battlefield. Many of us can fly and fight.”
Kysek chuckles softly to himself as he pulls a bit of guano from one of his hidden pockets. He rolls the pungent component between his fingers and hisses, "Ainulindarë."
A small orange bead appears in front of his pointed finger as he reappears and floats lazily toward the lobsters. The former thief aims the pellet to impact about 20' beyond the beasts before allowing it to detonate. A low roar and massive ball of fire explodes, engulfing the creatures from behind while leaving Ornforithalas and his troops out of the blast zone. Water flashes to steam and the bony plates char and crack as flames wash over them.
In the moments that follow, the guard captain and his men fall upon the nearer creature stabbing with their spears, spilling blue blood onto the sand and ending its life.
With the first crustacean dispatched, Ra'ziir darts in, his black blade flashing, splitting open the shell of the second beast as if it were wet paper. Organs spill out of the wound and one claw is sliced off cleanly as Grotto's massive axe twirls past, tumbling end over end to crash into two of the left legs. The weapon sinks deeply into flesh and sticks momentarily before tearing free and flying back to the scarred dwarf's hand.
A second later, Arthur lands on the enemy's back and thrusts downward with his own gleaming sword, piercing the head, and sending the monster twirling down into the depths of death.
Shadow laughs and throws Butch a wink, "Told you. Looks like we'll be having lobster bisque for dinner tonight!"
