Throwback Post - The Sword of Omens

I originally wrote this description up for my gaming group back in June 2013. I've made a few small tweaks for clarification but am still pretty pleased with how it turned out. This presentation only reflects the Sword of Omens as it appeared in the cartoon and does include abilities displayed in the related comic book media (mostly because I was never into the comics).

The Sword of Omens: +5 Size Alteration Calling Dagger/Shortsword/Longsword

Powers: at CL20; Clairvoyance (at will), The Eye of Thundara, when commanded projects the emblem of the Thundercats into the air like a spotlight. This imbues all Thundercats who can see it with a Mass Bull's Strength, Mass Cat's Grace and Mass Bear's Endurance.

Additionally, the sword can block magical ray attacks with a successful Reflex save by the wielder (treat as the Deflect Arrows feat).  A second Reflex allows the wielder to redirect the attack back at the caster at a -4 to hit penalty.

Upon command, the sword can generate a ray of energy (touch attack) that affects targets as a Bull Rush effect (Str bonus to equal to that of the wielder while affected by the Bull's Strength effect noted above).

Evening of 19 Gildember - morning of 20 Gildember 348 AC "Dinner is served, my friends!" yells Grotto proudly. "Hopefully we find some goblins to kill tomorrow!" Grotto remarks with a twinkle in his eye. Grotto feels happy and excited to be hunting goblin vermin. Kysek thanks Grotto for the meal. He sends Bubo out to hunt and watch the camp's perimeter. Meanwhile, at the Tower of Wayreth (Part 2)

20 Gildember 348 AC The Tower of Wayreth. The days pass quickly. Romulus rises before dawn each morning, lets Macula out for a run in the courtyard and nearby forest, heads to the dining hall for a breakfast of eggs (he quickly learns that the cooks are able to prepare the most delicious omelets he has ever eaten - his favorite being made with venison bacon, a sharp cheddar cheese, onions, and peppers), sausages, some pears in maple syrup, a stack of pancakes, a small bowl of oatmeal, and diced potatoes along with a pitcher of cider. Afterwards, he collects Macula and the pair head up to the Tower's library. Menathradon joins him soon after and the pair pour over heavy tomes about the Demiplane of Time and scribble notes for later review. The pages they have been assigned fetch them lunch; soups and sandwiches with more fruit and nuts and some watered-down beer before returning to their studies. 20 Gildember 348 AC "Lizardfolk are near!" exclaims Grotto. "From the looks of it very near. Maybe a half day ahead. We better tread lightly lest we find ourself in an ambush!" Ornforithalas crouches beside the footprint and frowns, "Quite a bit bigger than any lizardman I've ever seen. And I've never heard of them cooking their food before they eat it. I don't think we're dealing with lizardfolk here." Shadow points out a fainter print about 40" away. "Don't ask me how I know this, because I'm no tracker, but, if my math is correct, the mysterious owner of this footprint is about 8½' tall." 10 Gild ember  348 AC (1351 DR) The sun is barely above the horizon when Shadow, Ra’ziir, and Romulus return from their Tests of High Sorcery. Ra'ziir is missing several patches of skin, revealing crystalline muscle beneath. While the Bladesinger and Eldritch Knight bears the most obvious physical change, there is a difference in the bearing of all three mages. The rest of the party brings them up to speed on what Ornforitalas has told them about the war, the goblins, and the other enemies that have been sighted in the Silvanesti woods. Cedron says to the group, “Goblins are rarely smart enough to coordinate anything more complicated than opportunistic raids. I’m sure they will lead us to something or someone much more nefarious. BeyBlades for D&D

Turns out that my kids are into the whole “ Beyblade ” thing and the only thing the youngest one asked for this year for Christmas was a “Winning Valkyrie” Beyblade.   Aside from knowing that the game is basically a modernized version of battling tops and that there is a cartoon to promote the toy, I knew absolutely nothing about Beyblades up until this weekend. As I watched the boys play with their new “Beys”, I found myself fascinated by their game and the way they talked about different types of strategies and customized builds for their tops.   I gave some thought to a “BeyBlog” that would focus on different combinations of parts, the results of mini-tournaments, product reviews, and maybe a breakdown of individual episodes of the show (although how they managed to wring enough drama out of top-spinning to produce three seasons of the show with over 50 episodes per season confounds me entirely). 13 Gildember 348 AC (1351 DR) Kysek sends Bubo out to hunt for himself as he knows the owl prefers the freshness of his own catches. He gets himself something to eat while checking in with his familiar frequently. He then settles in to check his gear to ensure he has what he needs ready and accessible. Knives stretches his legs then says "Ready to go when you are, may as well find out if these goblins have any good treasure. I mean, let us bring justice to these lands." Arthur takes his time to take stock of what he has and prepares for the task at hand. Upon seeing the fishing boats tied up at the river docks, Raven smiles and makes his way over to take a look at them, admiring the design of each craft, and noting their general upkeep.
