Long Lost Friends (The Heroes Outmatched?)

12 Feb 1371 (1828 Grimmlands calendar)

 

The fire on the bridge continues to grow, spreading to the handrails and the supports that hold the span clear of the water.  Planks break off and drop into the Rioting River and are swept away on the current.  Smoke billows skyward and the entire area is lit by the roaring flames. 

The yellow hound continues to stalk forward, its two-handed sword held in a guard position as it closes in on Knives.  The acrobat and ex-mayor of Hamelin inhales deeply and spews the last of his magical fire breath at his foe.  The hound raises his arm to protect its eyes, loses some fur to the flames some and continues forward, unfazed by Knives’ attack.  It draws back its sword and slams Knives in the head with the pommelstone of his massive sword.  The hound follows up with a powerful knee to Knives’ chest, knocking the wind out him and driving him back ever closer to the riverbank.

“I told thee you would pay!  Know that the heckin’ trashing I do thee brings me no pleasure! ”

Chronosaj slides his pistols into his belt, surprised that his bullets were ineffective and draws both of his enchanted scimitars from their sheaths.  One bursts into flames while the other crackles with electricity and both hiss and spit sparks from their blades.  The Black Hound bares his teeth and balls up his fists and delivers a pair of sharp jabs.  Chronosaj is struck twice, once in the forehead and again in the jaw.  He struggles to remain upright on rubberized knees.  The gunslinger glances over one shoulder and sees that Knives is faring even worse that he is and begins to wonder if perhaps retreat may be their best option. 

The White Hound rises to its full height and faces the Hamelin side of the river, scanning the trees beyond for signs of the approaching mob, “Pepper, Mustard, we has a great need to bring down these miscreants quickly!  The master comes soon and we must not reveal ourselves before the proper time has come. ” With that, the White Hound draws his sword as well and begins marching purposefully toward the ex-mayor.
