Balifor Bay - Slithe the Sorcerer

Image
22nd Gildember 348 AC Shadow continues to float unseen above the battlefield. With all of the enemies on the right flank defeated, Raven pivots and charges the golden Draconian. The creature seems him coming, its expression one of disdain even though the elf has already dispatched two of its minions in short order. Disdain turns to surprise as Nightwatcher's adamantite blade slices easily through protective enchantments. The creature staggers back, blood pouring from a deep gash across the chest. Romulus calls out, " Mohjvpoph cumv!" A bolt of lightning erupts from his outstretched hand to obliterate Ra'ziir's second foe. With only one enemy remaining, Ra’zii's nimble fingers dance through a quick spell. Five pulsing darts of magical force missiles pound his axe-wielding dragonman in the chest, sending him flying backwards. As he hits the ground, he too, is petrified. Ornforithalas moves to flank with Arthur, his spear held high. He jabs with the weapon ...

Homicidal Vending Machine

Image
My brother-in-law brought his kids (4 and almost 1½ years old girls) over to play this weekend. One of the toys they brought with them was a little (18") red plastic refrigerator. The little one was playing and the fridge fell on her. She lay there on her back, eyes wide, wriggling and trying to get out from under this thing (which she did before I could even hop up to help her) but that got me to thinking about people who are killed by vending machines and that led to this.... Balifor Bay - The First Battle

Image
22nd Gildember 348 AC Shadow launches himself into the sky, uttering. " μεγαλύτερη αορατότητα" amd vanishing from view, cloaked in a spell of invisibility. As soon as the golden dragon-man yells for its troops to attack, Nightwatcher flies from its sheath, appearing in Raven's hand as if by magic. He races forward, veering to the right to engage the enemies on that side. The first creature he reaches, swings its axe at him but he nimbly ducks the blow, drawing his adamantite sword across its belly. His momentum carries him through to the next creature as well and he angles his blow upward, hitting just beneath that one's left arm, severing it at the shoulder. As the creatures die, they both turn to stone. Romulus pulls Macula back a step and quickly utters, " Nusfipleopip't txusf". A glowing sword materializes in midair beside him and he thrusts his hand forward, directing the weapon to attack alongside Raven. The blade swoops in, slashing one of the...

Balifor Bay - Draconians!

Image
22nd Gildember 348 AC Raven loosens Nightwatcher in its sheath and stalks forward, intent on the party’s unseen enemy. His eyes dart around, taking in his surroundings, compiling every detail as the party closes in on their foes. Romulus chants, " Tvopitlop" and his flesh takes on the consistency of stone before drawing his scimitar, Verdantwrath, and grasping it with both hands. Macula's feet pad silently along the forest floor, a mere whisper that none but the most skilled listeners could hope to pick up. Grotto follows the trackers, axe in hand and at the ready in case things become violent. Ra’ziir follows the trail with the others, though he keeps toward the rear of group. He pulls the hood of his black robes low to block the sun from his damaged face. While he keeps an ear out for any unusual sounds, the elf also takes the time to observe the martial  discipline of Ornforithalas and his troops. The Eldritch Knight mentally notes any strengths or weaknesses as he...

Balifor Bay - Arrivals, Introductions, and Tracking

Image
22nd Gildember 348 AC "Everyone better thank Shadow! He spared you from my warming embrace!" Grotto chuckles. "And who ever had day old lobster farts, sleeps in the cold tonight!" Grotto says with a grin knowing he was the culprit. "So, let's get back on track! With any luck we can find their path again!" Arthur walks about trying to warm his chilled bones he stops and takes in his surroundings, listening for any animals or any creatures. Once Ra'ziir teleports them in, Raven will begin searching for signs of the party's quarry. He will search for tracks on the ground, broken branches, claw marks on tree trunks, anything that might give some sort of indication that a creature or group of creatures have passed by. He makes a slow sweep of the area, checking high and low and, after close to a minute of looking for signs, he finds a single red thread stuck on the thorn of a blackberry bramble. He crouches, then drops to all fours and makes his...

Balifor Bay, Alinosti, and Wayreth Tower

21st - 22nd Gildember 348 AC Shadow gives Grotto a “go to Hades look” at the comments about getting Cassidy drunk and taking him to the hut. “Easy on the bottle or you might be next!” He says with a grin. Grotto laughs with Shadow! "Oh my! Well I'll drink to that!" Grotto says between chuckles. Grotto throws a few more logs on the fire and prepares for sleep. Cassidy shakes his head, "Sorry, fellas. Neither one of you is my type. Give me a Kender girl who can play rhythm and sing back-up and cooks like my Gram-Gram and I'll be taking myself off the market." Shadow chuckles, “ I hope for your sake that you find this kender lass quickly so that we can all enjoy her grandmother like cooking abilities. If they are anything like the Halflings from our world, we will all be happy to pull up a chair at that table.” As the night passes, the storm worsens. At several points throughout the night, loud CRACKS reverberate through the woods as branches, heavily laden...

Balifor Bay - Drinking and Raven’s Info Dump

Image
21 Gildember 348 AC Kysek contemplates his theory further. He thinks of spells that can control weather and dominate beasts. How long they act? How skilled a wizard would need be to make a lasting effect? He knows that there are both arcane and divine spells that specifically allow for the manipulation of weather and several spells that allow for charming and dominating creatures - and that doesn't even include spells that summon or bind beasts to the caster's will. Shadow will complete his studies and produce a bottle of wine from his bag of holding. “Nothing fancy just something I grabbed off a table somewhere along the way.” He takes a pull and passes it to Cassidy and then to the others that will. Ornforithalas' eyes widen, "Are you sure that giving the Kender wine is the best idea?" Cassidy's wide grin threatens to swallow his ears. "Don't worry, Ornie. I, unlike some people, can hold my liquor." He eagerly takes a pull from the bottle, ...

Throwback Compilation - Raven the Baker

Image
First, a little context... while in the Grimmlands , Raven fell victim to the Helpful Elf Curse . He felt compelled to take on a stereotypical "elven profession", in this case, he was transforming into a baker. While the party was able to escape the Grimmlands before any permanent damage was done, it was interesting to watch how his behavior changed over the duration of their time in that realm. Presented below are the parts where the Curse was actively doing its fell work. DAY FOUR Several of the party members seem concerned about Raven and his purchase of baking supplies. He tells everyone not to worry and that he is fine. “My mother used to bake all of the time when I still lived on Evermeet. She was quite accomplished as a cook and I think I remember most of what I used to see her doing.” DAY FIVE While the rest of the group is finalizing their decision, Raven begins gathering whatever flat stones he can find and starts stacking them off to the side of the road and fil...

Balifor Bay - Book Club?

Image
21 Gildember 348 AC Shadow will take time to study his Spellbook and make some changes to include some teleport and tiny hut inclusions among others. Cassidy sits down next to Shadow, produces a pair of bifocals from one of his seemingly innumerable pockets and slips them on. He also pulls out a battered  leather-bound folio and flips it open. Most of the pages seem to be stained with tea or soup or jelly or tea And soup And jelly. He leans toward Shadow, "Have you ever read 'The Astounding Tales of Penny Dreadful'? They're about a young woman who tells stories to this king who plans to kill her but she always stops before the end of the story so he lets her live so he can hear the next part. The next night, as soon as she finishes the tale, she begins another one, and the king, eager to hear the conclusion of that tale as well, postpones her execution once again." “Fantastic way to keep your head on your shoulders!  Let me finish this spell that will make us a ...

Balifor Bay - Raven Rendezvous

Image
20 Gildember 348 AC Grotto suggests that they stop the tracking to ride out the ice storm. "Let's take shelter before we are all covered in ice. I know the the tracks will be buried but we have a general idea of the direction. Let us set up camp. I have the last bit of rock lobster I tucked away and some fine herbs and mushrooms I found on the path. We can have a grand meal and warm up as the storm passes. We must be ready for the "Big Bird" and the foul goblin henchmen!" Ornforithalas agrees with Grotto. "We are bound to lose the trail anyway in this storm. I don't think I've ever seen the weather turn this bad so early into the fall. It's almost... unnatural." The party pulls off to one side of the trail to seek shelter from the storm. Cassidy hums happily as he roots through his pack and pockets. Before long, he has strung together a makeshift "tarp" fashioned from some string and several layers of cloth napkins bearing the e...

The Beast of Grunch Road

Image
New Orleans, founded in 1718 by French colonists, has long been a melting pot of diverse cultures. Steeped in mystery and tales of the supernatural, the city has long been tolerant of the beliefs and practices of the people who live within its borders. Save for one family whose rumored dark deeds were beyond that of which even the most understanding and accepting populace would allow... the Grunches. This family, known widely for its predisposition for albinism and dwarfism, were said to carry out occult practices and dark rites so heinous that they were driven into the swamps outside of the city. Feared and persecuted by their neighbors, the Grunch family more often than not found themselves accused of crimes they had nothing to do with and hunted by those who judged them based on their appearance. After decades of persecution, the Clan patriarch embraced the dark arts his family had been so long rumored to command. Blood sacrifices and pledges of service to diabolical creatures gra...
