Silvanost - The Summoning Begins
26 Gildember 348 AC
Grotto laughs, "No, hijack an enemy ship! Not one of these elven fishing vessels. We could catch the enemy by suprise!"
"Point of interest, when it's a ship that we intend to use for military purposes, it's called Comandeering," Raven replies.
"Aye Captain! Then let's commander a few. The elven fishermen can sail. We can fight. We can do some damage rather than letting them even set foot in the ground. Heck, scuttle them at sea. Let the wizard fly out of their range and bombard them with fireballs from above."
Grotto then joins the magic users to watch as they fix the bracers.
Ra’ziir joins Romulus and the others involved in the ritual. Looking to the halfling, he says, “My only question is, ironically, how long do you expect to complete the ritual?”
Romulus shrugs, "If all goes well? It should only take just a few seconds to summon the creature and then a minute to bind it. Of course, should the creature be harder to bind than I am anticipating, it could take longer, especially if it starts bringing in time duplicates."
"And what happens if it starts bringing in duplicates?" Raven asks.
Romulus stops walking, "Don't let them touch you. A single touch will age whatever cells they make contact with to the point of death, inflicting wounds that cannot be healed except with magic. They can advance your age into dotage or regress it towards infancy. Spells that manipulate time do not affect them. On a positive note, enchanted weapons are effective against them and everything I have read indicates that damage to one duplicate affects all of them - so try not to kill the Dimensional before I can bind it or we will have to start all over from the beginning."
“Hey Rom, would Time Stop work on these things? Or you think we could make some of us protected with Stoneskin or something?” Shadow inquires aloud.
"No spell that affects time, be it Time Stop or Temporal Stasis will affect a Dimensional. Stoneskin won't hurt, obviously, but I wouldn't rely on it. I have prepared some protection spells but the lore is vague on whether they will work so I also have a few illusions ready, just in case."
Cedron follows Ra’ziir to join Romulus and the others in the spell casting. “I have a few spells that I can contribute from my repertoire.” says the minstrel-priest.
After close to an hour of walking through the Silvanesti woods, the party comes to a ridge overlooking the Thon-Thalus River where Romulus has already used magic to create a summoning circle into the bare rock. As he begins pulling reagents and other spell components from his pouches, he explains, "The circle will hold χρόνος but, because he, or it, I suppose, exists outside of time, other temporal versions of the creature will, probably furious, and attempt to disrupt the spell." He stretches, flexes his fingers, and takes a deep breath. "The binding will only take about a minute to complete. While I am performing it, cast whatever spells you can that will give you influence over its mind and keep telling it that this is a good idea." The halfling archmage looks to Raven and Grotto. "As neither of you have spells to wield, it will be your job to keep χρόνος and its duplicates off of us. Remember, do not kill it and do not let it touch anyone."
Raven removes his damaged bracers a d passes it to Romulus. He then draws Nightwatcher and Thorgrim and stands just outside of the summoning circle Romulus has etched into the ground.
As the rest of the companions spread out in preparation for the halfling’s spellwork, Romulus begins to chant, "χρόνος, iminipvem ug voni, o, Sunymyt Csencmiguuv, tynnup auy! eqqies epf fu na coffoph!"
A second passes.
Then another.
Then a third.
In the center of the circle, orange smoke begins to trickle out of the ground. Glowing blue spots swirl out of the cloud and the smell of ozone fills the air.
