Day Four of the Odinsleep (Back to the Mead Hall)

Day Four of the Odinsleep (5pm)

The dust from the battle begins to settle.  Cedron, Grotto, Morn and Shadow move amongst the injured.  Each calls upon whatever magic they have to begin mending the wounds incurred during the day’s battles.  Ra’ziir nods thanks and Raven sits in an exhausted heap, sweat drying on his brow as the rest of the group begins searching the bodies of those slain.  Before long, a sizeable pile of loot has been gathered, most of it taken from the Svartaflar who tried to sneak past the group under the cover of invisibility magic.

Arthur checks on Idunn to see how she has fared and the goddess bestows him a beatific smile in response.  After cleaning his blades and sheathing them, Kysek joins them, “Not sure we can continue at this pace for too many more of these encounters.  When is this Odin supposed to awaken?”

Idunn’s smile fades, “I fear that we are but midway through the Odinsleep if the All-Father keeps to the pattern he has established over the years.”

Drax seeks out the goddess as well, “I apologize that we could not prevent damage to your arbor, my lady.  These Jotun are hardy beasts.”

The goddess leans forward, looking Drax in the eye, “Worry not, noble assassin.  My trees are not easily felled by fire or axe.  Were it not for the efforts of you and your brave companions, the skalds may be telling different tales in the Halls of Valhalla this evening.”  Idunn approaches the single tree that was marred by a Jotun axe during the battle and places her hand upon its weathered bark.  Without a single word, she wills life to flow into the wood, mending the tree’s wound as the healers mend those of the adventurers.

Once the spoils of war have been gathered, Idunn leads the adventurers through her grove and back to the mead hall.  She takes her leave of the group and seeks out her husband while scores of Einherjar begin pouring in.  The rafters of the hall soon shake with raucous laughter, bragging of the day’s deeds, and roar of the crowd.  Baldur is first of the warrior gods to appear.  He flashes a smile at the group and greets each by name, and grasps forearms with them as he makes his way to the seat at the head of the main table.  Feelings of well-being left behind from the god’s touch restore what hurts remain.  A few minutes later, Baldur is joined by the red-haired Thor and the two embrace in the manner of warriors as calls for mead, ale, and roasted boar are shouted out by the crowd.

As the food is brought out, a light hand touches Shadow upon the shoulder and he turns, face-to-face with “his” Valkyrie, “You lived.  One of my names is Hildr.  I have duties to attend but I will look for you when I may.”
