Long Lost Friends

Knives looked at Chronosaj.  The gunslinger had his gear packed and was ready to go.  The thief turned and peeked out the window of his office again and noted that the crowd was continuing to gather and that there was what he considered to be an inordinate percentage of torches and pitchforks mixed in amongst the crowd.

“I didn’t think they would take it so personally,” quipped the acting mayor of Hamelin.

“Well, we are stealing most of what was in the city’s treasury.  I just don’t get how they found out,” replied Chronosaj.

Knives shrugged before shouldering his pack, “Well, I know it wasn’t us that tipped them off so it had to be someone else.”

“The entire city council pretty much hates you.  One of them could have made up the rumor that we are robbing the city purely by coincidence.  Either way, it’s time to go.  We head  north for four days until we reach Jack’s castle, stock up on supplies and then hit the border crossing at the Loomslag Peaks.”  The gunslinger adjusted the sling on his rifle, made sure his pistols were in easy reach and loosened his scimitars in their sheathes and nodded at Knives.

The now ex-acting mayor went out the door and headed toward the rear of the building.  He slid a window open and lead the way out, dropping into the alley behind city hall and leading the way off into the shadows.
